This episode was much like the transition episode between arc 3 and arc 4. It’s mostly meant to introduce Shuurei’s next task, but also to strengthen the position of women in the imperial court, even if it does mean that Ryuuki had to abuse his powers a bit.

In the first arc, Shuurei was assigned as Ryuuki’s temporary wife, in the second arc, she was studying hard in order to become a government official. In the third arc, she had to prove herself as shinshi, by having to endure a number of challenging trials and in the fourth arc, she gets assigned as the co-governor of the Sa-province. As the ring is still gone, and all of the ones found are fake, the Sa-province is in desperate need of a governor. If, after a year of the previous governor’s death, nobody is found, people can create a new ring. Ryuuki wanted to prevent some random guy to rise as the governor, so he assigned Shuurei and Eigetsu as temporary governors. By giving them flower buds, it means that he has absolute trust in them. This would prevent people from creating a new ring, as that would be going against the emperor himself, which they want to prevent. Still, this does mean that Shuurei is going to have a tough time from now on. Same as Eigetsu. There will probably be a number of people who don’t like her there.

Still no Kourin. I think that she’ll be able to meet Shuurei in the next episode. Interesting note: Shuurei still doesn’t know the things Kourin did to her. Also, there seem to be some serious plans about making Shuurei as Kouyuu’s wife. Signs are pointing more and more to the direction where Shuurei and Ryuuki will never really be together. After all, if Shuurei would marry Ryuuki, she’d be a princess, which is not something she’s aiming for. Another interesting fact is that when Kurou mentioned that when Kouyuu marries Shuurei, he’ll be taking over the Kou clan. But what if Shuurei ends up taking over the Kou clan?

I think I now know what Ten meant by the fact that the next episodes will be focusing a lot on Seiran’s background. After all, his history with Ensei has been rather unexplained. I think that that’ll be a major focus in the next arc.

I’ve just been wondering, if Wontaek’s prediction is right, and the fifth book will end around episode 25, then will there be enough time for all of the ten books to be shown?

It is impossible for all ten books to be shown. We still have gotten to only the beginning of book 4 at episode 21, as episode 20 & 21 was mainly about character backgrounds, and if they keep up their current pace, book 4 will end about episode 25, and in 39 episodes, we will get to book 7. Although I could not get a copy of book 6 or 7, I heard one of them to be the most popular book in the series ( the source of this information isn’t that reliable, though ), thus it is quite likely that book 7 was the destination from the start of the series.

    Couple of remarks.

    1. >> Ryuuki had to abuse his powers a bit.
He offered the senior officers the same honor if they wanted to take the post of governor of Sa Providence. All the senior officers, who knew about the danger to their life in the providence, either had other important duties assigned to them already, or did not have the guts to gamble on his life for the promotion. Since everyone was given an opportunity, but none was WILLING to take it, this cannot be considered as abuse of power.

    2. >> As the ring is still gone, and all of the ones found are fake, the Sa-province is in desperate need of a governor.

The ring is the mark of head of Sa Clan. Sa Clan, with or without the ring, always tried to manipulate the governor of their providence to their advantage. Possession of the ring has nothing to do with the governor; its sole purpose is strengthen one’s power within the Sa family. By the way, we have already seen where the real ring is located.

    >>> Ryuuki wanted to prevent some random guy to rise as the governor, so he assigned Shuurei and Eigetsu as temporary governors.

Ensei was the temporary governor. Shuurei and Eigetsu are assigned as official governor. The random guy thing is about the position of head of Sa Clan. Ryuuki does wish Shuurei and Eigetsu to control the events in Sa Providence and he is hoping that someone who eventually becomes the clan head won’t be able to interfere with the duties of the governor.

    >>> This would prevent people from creating a new ring, as that would be going against the emperor himself, which they want to prevent.

As I said, the appointment was not about the ring. Shuurei and Eigetsu are young, however, and he did not want any jealous senior government officials to undermine what Shuurei and Eigetsu has to do, thus the flower bud. The bud carried another meaning: Since they are the first officials to be assigned by him, he is letting everyone know that he considers these two as foundations to his new government.

    >>> Interesting note: Shuurei still doesn’t know the things Kourin did to her.

    Episode 21 explains this.

    >>> But what if Shuurei ends up taking over the Kou clan?

    Just the Kou clan? :)

    >>> Signs are pointing more and more to the direction where Shuurei and Ryuuki will never really be together.

According to surveys done on female readers of this series, Seiran was the most popular male, followed by Kouyuu. Which means why should Shuurei choose Ryuuki when she already have Seiran?

Ah, ok. Seems I misunderstood that part. It seems a lot more logical now. Thanks for explaining.

Do you mean with Sa’s daughter? I could’ve sworn that one was fake as well.

    >>>Just the Kou clan? :)

This could promise to be very interesting :)

SO the manga finishes at vol 10? Where can I get them?

It’s not a manga, it’s a series of novels. No idea how to get it, though. ;)

@Bam: well, I’m super interested to do volunteer. Indeed I did volunteer in many of the programs just so I can watch show/movies/events for free. The only problem is I’m staying in Australia so it kinda hard to do.

@Mamamoo: not sure if you’re still around, but I recommend Humunculus as a very decent psychological drama, featuring great art; albeit it launches stronger than it lands. Tropical Citron is a great hidden gem of a manga, and it’s only two volumes. On the action side of things I’ll recommend Vagabond, since it’s a great retelling of the Musashi legend with fantastic linework. Berserk is a classic, so I suggest getting into Vinland Saga when you inevitably get up-to-date.

I have formed quite a repertoire with the staff, planners, vendors and volunteer coordinators at LiB. I can get you a volunteer position, which makes your ticket free for about 20 hours of helping them with various tasks. Most of the volunteers are great people, so you would have fun and learn quite a bit from these guys. It is also possible to do your hours before or after the show, So you can attend the actual festival days without hassle. Let me know if you’re interested.

LiB is good primarily because of its great vibe, art installations, easy access to water and food, plus top of the line projectors, lasers and LEDs. You can leave your wallet on the ground for a few days, come back the last day and nobody would have even touched it. It’s run by the group known as DoLab that run Burning Man, so it’s basically a mini version of that that is smaller, cozier, more comfortable, cheaper, and way less taxing on your body.

Now I only go to Blues Fest and Lightning in a Bottle. The Former because it has older chiller people, and great live music. I saw a band called The Whiskey Brothers do a complete BlueGrass Pink Floyd cover called The Dark Side of the Moonshine, and it was one of the greatest performances I have ever seen. Thousands of people ground-stomping and rocking to the live performance without reliance on a single speaker or amp.

@SuperMario: Yup, just got back from it. I used to attend the festival circuit quite adamantly a few years ago. Coachella, Burning Man, Oregon County Fair, The Rainbow Gathering, Hardly Strictly, Bonnaroo, Reggae Fest/By the River, High Sierra, Kate Wolf … you name it and I’ve done it.

Bought Fire Emblem Fates. Think I am gonna stop Shopping at GameStop now. Outright charged me twenty euros higher than its going on Amazon. At least I was smart enough to only buy one game and download the other at a discounted price. I should have got it through Amazon.

I think Xenoblade X deserved a better console to be honest. It could have been better on a console with more power. Hell I would love it if it moved to PC.

@Aidan That would certainly help, thanks. I certainly feel like I would’ve gotten more value out of my WiiU had more of my friends owned one, I hardly ever touched SSB, Mario Kart and the like. The only noteworthy game in the entirety of 2015 for me was Xenoblade CX.

Flying witch – 08

Watching Flying witch really feel like listening to a classical music, where the long running time flies by and we actually feel it more than try to understand it. This week we continue what was left off last week, with Makoto, Chinatsu, Kei meeting the owners of the café shop and their regular customers. This […]

Mayoiga – 09

Now the trick to enjoy Mayoiga is to expect the unexpected. Anything could happen, and probably will. The series has successfully tweaked our noses weeks after weeks, then if Mayoiga stops being ridiculous and becomes conventional, I would be very disappointed. The fun is again on par this week and we have one of the […]

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 09

This week I happened to see the result of delaying the release of Re:Zero on a certain message board. It was pure pandemonium as there were those too lazy to google demanding the next episode, trolls trying to convince people the episode was delayed to next week with fake screenshots of twitter posts, haters and […]

Kiznaiver – 08

In my last post I assumed that this episode would be about Tenga as the episodes title seems to suggest but it turned out to be more an episode about Agata than anything else. It basically confirmed my previous assumptions about Agata and Noriko being involved with the previous Kiznaiver project when they were children […]

Bungou Stray Dogs – 08

I have to say more than anything this is Bungou Stray Dogs’ special episode, in a sense that in one hand, the show produces one of its most brilliance ever, but on the other hand, there are still many shortcomings along with the greatness, producing an episode that mostly entertainment but uneven. The introduction of […]

Joker Game – 08

Flying witch – 07

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 08

Kiznaiver – 07

To some this may be the strongest episode of Kiznaiver to date. However to someone like myself I find myself mixed on what I just witnessed. Chinese Animation Guide – Part 2: Chinese Anime shows

As much as I hated the term Chinese Anime (Anime stands for Japanese animation, strictly speaking), this is the exact term for those shows. Their influence from the Anime was so heavy that apart from the voice cast and some scene settings, you can’t tell those apart from the original anime. With that said, judge from […]

If anyone have been followed animation closely for the last few years, they will notice a recent rise of Chinese animation (call it a wave if you like), both in feature and in series. While it does not have much of an impact in any English speaking world like anime has been, they are really popular in their mainland and some parts of Asian countries. With the success of Kung Fu Panda (half-produced by China) and its power on movies industry (China IS the main market for feature films now), it is worth it to take a look on this current trend and see how they are different from anime.
While my fellow bloggers are the ones who more specialize in Games and Manga, I will be the one who cover World Animation (by that I mean anything animated other than anime and American big studio animation – they got way too much coverage already). Like majority of you guys I am not from China, my Chinese is as good as my Japanese (which is to say NONE), so this is actually goddamn difficult to look for titles, and the information I could find are sacred here on top of that find a suitable sub for it, most of them does not even have an English name, thus the title and the synopsis that I give you here are just a rough translation. So behold. This is our very first attempt to cover the animation of china.
