Short Synopsis: The Semi-ending of Red Garden, and what an ending it is. Let’s just say that lots of people die.
Good: The final scene of Hervé and Anna. God, that was so good, I actually cried, and that doesn’t happen often.
Bad: 8!? August!? That long till the OVA comes!?
Overall Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10

Oh boy, that surely was an awesome episode, as it marks the end of the struggle between the animus and the Doral. Still, the characters who really stole the show were Kate and most especially Hervé and Lula. The episode starts with Kate and Hervé yelling at each other, which clearly shows that he lost it, due to his concerns for his sister. Still, that was just an introduction of the following events.

First of all, Lula sacrificing herself to mortally hurt Hervé was amazing. Right before she hit her, I could really see in her eyes that she was trying to avenge her brother. Well, she didn’t necessarily kill him, but what she did do was erase all Hervé’s chances of success. So sad.

But the definite highlight of the episode, and quite possibly the entire series, was Hervé dying himself. I don’t cry often, this probably happens once a month or something, but that scene did it. Seeing Hervé kill his own sister, whom he cared about so much was just way too sad. The ending was a bit strange, though. But then again, you can’t really call that the ending of the series, with an OVA coming in august. I wonder what it’ll be about, actually. Everybody apart from Kate, Rose, Claire and Rachel died. Will it show two episodes of them, living with their memories lost? While that would be awesome, I think that there’d be some kind of twist included. But can the creators really do so much in only two episodes?

Still, looking back, and not taking the OVA into account, I have to say that Red Garden appeared to be the best series that arrived in the Fall-Season. It may never had episodes with a rating of 9/10, but those who’ve been keeping an eye out at my episode ratings have noticed that Red Garden has been getting the most consistent and yet high ratings. Nearly every episode since episode 15 has gotten a 8,5/10. Asatte no Houkou was great, and Bakumatsu is great, but they haven’t really reached the heights of Red Garden yet. Death Note stood a chance of beating it at one point, but it destroyed this chance due to the rather bad Yotsuba-arc. Ghost Hunt turned out disappointing, while Jigoku Shoujo is quite fun at the moment, but again, it can’t just reach Red Garden yet. At least, unless its final three episodes turn out to become really awesome. :)

I don’t know why, but I think the OVA will not be the sequel of the 22nd Episode. I rather think of a prequel of Red garden, like the meeting between Lise and Hervé, or the story of the first animus, or the legend of the cursed tomes.

  2. Immelman says:

Oh, and don’t dig Death note too soon. There are a lot of episodes left, and be ready to have your ass kicked in each of one !

  3. Kite says:

I dunno if Herve actually died or did he? It looked like he could still have maybe lived. Anyways the OVA will be a nice work and I can’t wait to see it.

  4. Lost Seeker says:

only 2 eps left? and a wait till august? will the subber, sub them? so many important questions left unanswered.

  5. asdf says:

actually the ova is in the far future, and kate and them are still alive, but there’s 4 new girls and a guy, too (as far as i can tell). i don’t know if it’s two episode ova though it might just be like a short movie.

  6. Lolly says:

Did the head of Grace, Paula I think, die too? I’m not sure if I saw her fighting or not.

  7. Chris says:

Wow that episode made me wanna cry, not only the sweet ending but the fact that I’m leaving these characters who I (not to sound too nerdy) really felt a connection with.

Ova had a feel of maybe being sorta creepy, I hope it is but that it also includes the brighter side of Red Garden, can’t wait and I believe that it is going to be a 2 episode or an hour long OVA due to the original product being 24 episodes.

  8. Chris says:

Oh as for the ending, I think Lise somehow saved everybody’s future by sacrificing her own eternal life. When all thw grils get up it looks like they are going ??? but in the “i still remember everything” kind of way.

  9. psgels psgels says:

Lolly: I haven’t seen her. As far as I could tell, Paula was just a spectator who knew everything. I never saw her actually fight, which does suggest that she survived as well.

It pretty much started as a blatant rip off of gantz and i havent been able to force my self past the early ones. o well guess this one isnt for me but i ussly like ur reviews. Still say they shud make another seson of gantz or a real ending : ( o well the mangas still good

  11. Hyejeong says:

I loved this series overall. I really got into it and loved the characters. I cried when Herve and his sister died too. I’m looking forward to the OVA but my expectations aren’t too high. *sigh* really did like this series.

at first I was all “ha-ha!” because Herve was being a bee-yatch~

@AidanAK47 His link isn’t even direct to the indiegogo page. I would be offended but I’m mostly just feel sorry for how much effort this guy has clearly put into his project and how misguided it seems. I’m impressed by the effort, but the writing looks beyond terrible. I hope things turn out ok for the creator.

Don’t you just love it when some stranger just comes in, tells you to advertise for them and leaves before you even have a chance to reply whether or not you would do it?
    …Really motivates you to help…

Hi there! Because you are in to try something new ;), Could it be possible to post our Indiegogo campaign (live now!) link on your blog? We give a new dimension to anime and we thought would be interesting to your fans :) Thx in advance!!https://www.indiegogo.com/explore?utf8=✓&filter_title=devil%27s+legacy

Anyone still watching Grisaia? I’ve watched up to episode 5 and am finding it a very weird experience to watch, but not in a good way.

And it looks like I’ll be dropping Horimiya. I’m simply not interested in the sudden romance that appeared from no where with Toru and Yuki. It seriously came out of no where when we were led to believe she liked Miyamura’s alter appearance. In addition, the characters turned out to be really bland.

@K-Off, well I got no means to pay you and the terms are fairly vague…but I will put a hundred euro on it.
Take note that we are talking a massive change needed here K-Off. Like removing money from politics or filtering out 70% of the corruption. Or at least making sure there aren’t retards in charge.

@K-Off, Thought it actually captured what is going on. Mate, you may be able to fix a small part of this but in the end the machine is broken and whatever you fix is just going to break again. As longs as it’s like that, I highly doubt you will acomplish anything signifcant. I am willing to put money on that.
Unless the broken car is trashed and you go out to buy a brand new one this isn’t really gonna go anywhere.

Wyatt, giving an update on Nise x Koi Boyfriend. That certainly escalated quickly, getting rid of the the whole “she is actually a guy” thing. Yaoi ecchi scene in the second chapter, although it’s harmless compared to others in its genre. But some if the other characters remind me of Miyamura and Hori’s dad so much I get this childish giggle whenever they show up. LOL

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 06

I was mistaken in the previous review. The action scene I thought we would be getting today has been postponed till next week. This week we have a calm before the storm episode as things seem to be setting up for the fight scene to come. I am a little disappointed with this weeks fare […]

Nanatsu no Taizai Episode 6

There was quite number of still frames this episode so I hope that the animation budget isn’t starting to hurt. So our heroes triumph over the villains with a little help from Elizabeth. She showed some actual enginuity for once. As I was about to sigh as the villain was preparing to blab on about […]

Shingeki no Bahamut:Genesis- 05

Ah, the story progression that I was looking for. I finally find myself having a reason to get attached to Leone and Kaisar, because this episode devotes an entire episode to their rivalry and is just all around an improvement from last episode. I’ve talked about how the slow pacing hurts this show, and this […]

Parasyte-the Maxim- 03-05

Let me put up a disclaimer: When I first started to review this series, I didn’t foresee the obvious outcome that this show would end up so mediocre. I debated whether or not I should write reviews in groups of 2-3 episodes versus reviews that would drone on about the same issues every single episode, […]

Your Lie in April – 04 & 05

Episodes 4 and 5 of Your Lie in April were crucial ones in terms of how the series would develop. Episode 4 was a very important episode in the series as we see Kousei reintroduce himself to the music world after his mother’s death left him unable to play the piano. How the writers would […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 05

Always elegant. That is the motto of the Tohsaka household and the mask of Tohsaka Rin. The meaning clearly that no matter what you do, do it with style and grace. It is the creed which Rin upholds by playing the honor student. Though as you can see, at times cracks can appear in the […]

Nanatsu no Taizai Episode 5

One of the problems facing this series is the presentation of threats. In many other shounen you can just bring out some powerful villain and have him force the protagonist to get stronger. In seven deadly sins however our main characters are already veteran legendary warriors with tremendous power. So just adding in a strong […]

Gugure! Kokkuri-San- 05

This. This is what I was asking for, and it delivered. This episode finally starts to create a distinct voice for itself by not adding to the hodgepodge of comedic styles this show already had, opting for a slow, drawn-out humor rather than the experimentation this show seemed to be doing with these past four episodes. It’s […]

Psycho Pass 2 – 03 – 04

Episodes 3 and 4 of Pyscho Pass are difficult to talk about. This show has been extremely consistent so far. The staff have handled this sequel with an understated confidence that’s hard to dislike. I still don’t find the show to be as atmospheric as the original, and I still like the dialogue less, but the narrative […]

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]

Noucome! You do not want to know how long I have been waiting for a series like this. More than half a decade, at the very least. Finally a series comes along and puts the incredibly overused harem genre in its place. And it actually does it well. Thank you! So to elaborate: the harem […]

Tamayura – More Aggressive Review – 75/100

I’m not going to dedicate a post for my impression for the final three episodes of this series. It was just too boring to write much about. Silver Spoon Review – 86/100

When Noitamina started airing two series per season, it was amazing.
