Short Synopsis: The Semi-ending of Red Garden, and what an ending it is. Let’s just say that lots of people die.
Good: The final scene of Hervé and Anna. God, that was so good, I actually cried, and that doesn’t happen often.
Bad: 8!? August!? That long till the OVA comes!?
Overall Enjoyment Value: 8.5/10

Oh boy, that surely was an awesome episode, as it marks the end of the struggle between the animus and the Doral. Still, the characters who really stole the show were Kate and most especially Hervé and Lula. The episode starts with Kate and Hervé yelling at each other, which clearly shows that he lost it, due to his concerns for his sister. Still, that was just an introduction of the following events.

First of all, Lula sacrificing herself to mortally hurt Hervé was amazing. Right before she hit her, I could really see in her eyes that she was trying to avenge her brother. Well, she didn’t necessarily kill him, but what she did do was erase all Hervé’s chances of success. So sad.

But the definite highlight of the episode, and quite possibly the entire series, was Hervé dying himself. I don’t cry often, this probably happens once a month or something, but that scene did it. Seeing Hervé kill his own sister, whom he cared about so much was just way too sad. The ending was a bit strange, though. But then again, you can’t really call that the ending of the series, with an OVA coming in august. I wonder what it’ll be about, actually. Everybody apart from Kate, Rose, Claire and Rachel died. Will it show two episodes of them, living with their memories lost? While that would be awesome, I think that there’d be some kind of twist included. But can the creators really do so much in only two episodes?

Still, looking back, and not taking the OVA into account, I have to say that Red Garden appeared to be the best series that arrived in the Fall-Season. It may never had episodes with a rating of 9/10, but those who’ve been keeping an eye out at my episode ratings have noticed that Red Garden has been getting the most consistent and yet high ratings. Nearly every episode since episode 15 has gotten a 8,5/10. Asatte no Houkou was great, and Bakumatsu is great, but they haven’t really reached the heights of Red Garden yet. Death Note stood a chance of beating it at one point, but it destroyed this chance due to the rather bad Yotsuba-arc. Ghost Hunt turned out disappointing, while Jigoku Shoujo is quite fun at the moment, but again, it can’t just reach Red Garden yet. At least, unless its final three episodes turn out to become really awesome. :)

I don’t know why, but I think the OVA will not be the sequel of the 22nd Episode. I rather think of a prequel of Red garden, like the meeting between Lise and Hervé, or the story of the first animus, or the legend of the cursed tomes.

Oh, and don’t dig Death note too soon. There are a lot of episodes left, and be ready to have your ass kicked in each of one !

  3. Avatar Kite says:

I dunno if Herve actually died or did he? It looked like he could still have maybe lived. Anyways the OVA will be a nice work and I can’t wait to see it.

  4. Avatar Lost Seeker says:

only 2 eps left? and a wait till august? will the subber, sub them? so many important questions left unanswered.

  5. Avatar asdf says:

actually the ova is in the far future, and kate and them are still alive, but there’s 4 new girls and a guy, too (as far as i can tell). i don’t know if it’s two episode ova though it might just be like a short movie.

  6. Avatar Lolly says:

Did the head of Grace, Paula I think, die too? I’m not sure if I saw her fighting or not.

  7. Avatar Chris says:

Wow that episode made me wanna cry, not only the sweet ending but the fact that I’m leaving these characters who I (not to sound too nerdy) really felt a connection with.

Ova had a feel of maybe being sorta creepy, I hope it is but that it also includes the brighter side of Red Garden, can’t wait and I believe that it is going to be a 2 episode or an hour long OVA due to the original product being 24 episodes.

  8. Avatar Chris says:

Oh as for the ending, I think Lise somehow saved everybody’s future by sacrificing her own eternal life. When all thw grils get up it looks like they are going ??? but in the “i still remember everything” kind of way.

  9. psgels psgels says:

Lolly: I haven’t seen her. As far as I could tell, Paula was just a spectator who knew everything. I never saw her actually fight, which does suggest that she survived as well.

I loved this series overall. I really got into it and loved the characters. I cried when Herve and his sister died too. I’m looking forward to the OVA but my expectations aren’t too high. *sigh* really did like this series.

Fire Force – 11 [Formation of Company 8 / The Mightiest Hikeshi]

Unlike other shows I’m watching, Fire Force seems to be hitting stride right at the end of the season. I still argue this show is best in episodes like this one – minimal fight scenes, which they struggle with, and limited catgirl.

DanMachi2 – Army’s Advance (Rakia)

DanMachi is sliding down a muddy hill.  That’s both a summary of what happened this episode and the state of this season’s quality in general.

Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note – 12 [Lightning and Shooting Star]

As I have speculated in the past couple of weeks, the culprit behind all the crime is Dr. Heartless. What did surprise me was him being a Caules impostor the entire time he was on the train. Lord El-Melloi II isn’t a show about the audience solves the mystery for themselves but there was still […]

Kimetsu no Yaiba – 25 [Tsuguko, Kanao Tsuyuri]

Welcome one and all, to the penultimate week of Kimetsu no Yaiba. It’s an odd week I feel, though not a particularly negative one. Just the difference between “fine” and “good”, as this week covers more training, Kanao’s backstory and some actually good comedy. So without further ado, let’s dive in. Starting off, let’s talk […]

Dr.STONE – 12 [Buddies Back to Back]

Welcome to another good week of Dr.STONE, this time tackling a chapter I have been expectantly waiting for. First and foremost I want to talk about […]

Mononoke – 7 [Faceless Monster, Part 2] – Throwback Thursday

And so ends another arc of Mononoke. This was an interesting one as I was simultaneously proven right, yet also wrong, based on last weeks predictions. So without further ado, lets dive right into the finale of our latest horrifying arc. Starting off, Mononoke this week sort of pulled a fast one on me. It […]

Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note – 10-11

Contrary to last episode’s ending scene of Gray and Hephaestion charging into each other, it winds up being something very reminiscent of the that entire banquet of kings episode from Fate/zero. Although fewer in participants, less epic and far shorter than its predecessor, it’s filled with substantial dialogue between these two warriors about their own […]

Vinland Saga – 10 [Ragnarok]

This was a pretty insightful week for Vinland Saga. As we get a deeper look into Askeladd’s character, Thorkell goes on the move and Thorfinn continues to question his place in the band. Lets dive in! Starting off, like always, the productions. This week was, to use a dirty word, pretty damn cinematic. Vinland continues […]

Fire Force – 9/10 [Spreading Malice/Promise]

Fire Force is an anime that shows more than it tells.  For that reason, I’ve saved up two episodes to have something more to talk about than a simple recap.  Let’s go!

Serial Experiments Lain Anime Review – 78/100 – Throwback Thursday

Serial Experiments Lain is weird. It is a series unlike any other, wholly unique in anime, both modern and historical. Every aspect of it, from presentation to narrative, is best described as an experience. It is because of this that I believe Lain is a must watch, if only to experience a piece of anime […]

Dororo Anime Review – 55/100

In the modern anime sphere, getting a complete story, start to finish, is a rare thing. As is getting an adaptation for an older work. Just like the titular character, Boogiepop Phantom the series has become some sort of urban legend itself in this medium. Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai (2019 Winter) Anime Review – 77/100

Coming to Kotobuki, there are lots of aspect that catch my attention: it’s from a famed director Tsutomu Mizushima who can turn the most trashable and genre-able concepts into something intriguing; it’s an CG show about air pilots: it has extended aerial combat set-pieces. Watching it till the end, I have to tip my hat […]
