I’m not really happy, since this episode only seemed to have two roles: to show how Ellis is changing, and to save a bit of budget. I’m afraid to say it, but this has got to be one of the worst episodes of El Cazador. While Ellis was nice and all, she was the only thing that was nice about this episode. and perhaps the random destroyed objects that LA is leaving behind (notice the cactus at the beginning of the episode?)

Both the animation and the writing were rather bad. While the series usually sparkles through its character-designs, this episode showed mostly recycled frames, or it just showed the characters from a very far distance. The case this time is about Ellis and Nadie going after a bounty to make money (even though they acknowledged that it would consume too much work in the previous episode), but it lacks the magic of the first half of the series. Especialy because we get almost no information about the guy that needs to be caught. To top things, Ellis and Nadie run yet again into Ricardo and Lilio with some god-like timing, and Nadie miraculously survives a shot from a gun that hit her directly without any possible explanation. I don’t know who wrote this rubbish, but Bee-Train: please fire him. Even the music couldn’t save this episode.

There’s one interesting unrelated thing that came to my mind while watching this episode. We don’t see anymore random bounty-hunters after Ellis, do we? Does this indeed have to do with Rozenberg’s influence? I can imagine him passing out information about Ellis to the bounty-hunters, as an attempt to force Ellis to develop her powers.

Please, Bee-Train. You can do better than this.

I’m glad I’m not the only person who didn’t like this episode. To put it mildly, it reeks laziness and lack of budget.
Nadi slipped, that’s how she avoided death. Way too lucky.

  2. totoum says:

just reassure me,are we talking .hach//roots level of lazyness here, can’t be as bad as that right?

  3. psgels psgels says:

Well, it’s not a trainwreck like .Hack//Roots. El Cazador still remains a great series, but this was just one very bad episode.

This is my first time commenting, though I love reading your reviews because I tend to agree with them. XD So I was really curious what you thought about this episode…and I see we agree. The whole zomg-she’s-dead thing was really, really cheap. ~_~

Still, I’m hoping the story will pull itself together, because I really like some of the characters (Nadie, Ellis, and RICARDO in particular).

  5. Ashura says:

And I’m hoping that Lirio will say something until the end of the series. It’s Inoue Marina after all, and I love her voice.

  6. Ivy says:

Ok I’m feeling really really strange and odd here lol. Am I the only one who found this episode surprisingly pleasant when it comes to the animation? (Its bee-train they fill their shows with stills and overly dramatic Kajiura music) Ya the death thing was cheap BUT I found the episode as a whole good…I don’t know maybe I’m just weird.

  7. psgels psgels says:

Well, there’s nothing wrong with strange tastes. ;)

I just disliked this episode because it rather ruined everything that I liked about this series. And regarding the animation, the only thing I can remember is the part where the guy tried to flee in his car, which looked rather fake.

  8. Solaris says:

    >Nadie miraculously survives a shot from a gun that hit her directly
well … ehm… ehm… she slipped on the frost Ellis created, so che wasn’t hit at all… how lucky she was. I found it funny and not cheap at all. It’s a good way to make humour

    >We don’t see anymore random bounty-hunters after Ellis, do we?
There’s someone after Ellis who’s even worse than bounty-loosers and rozemberg himself! Excuse if it’s so few >.

  9. Chris says:

I didn’t notice anything especially bad about this episode either. Maybe it wasn’t the best so far. If you didn’t get why Nadie survived you must have really been asleep around that time. Regarding the god-like timing, well, this has happened in virtually every episode so far. There’s obviously something about Ricardo and Lirio which has yet to be explained.

  10. fsidf says:

Weird… I liked this episode a lot. But I like every episode of El Cazador so far.

  11. Reihn says:

Actually, I disagree, this is a pretty nice ep. Ellis cared for Nadie and showed it by her rushing to her side. And NO she wasn’t really shot. She slipped on the ice that Ellis created in order to stop the car.

@Bam, While there are people who claim that Ufotable screwed up Shirous characterisation(One fellow claims that in the visual novel Shirou was Sadistic, calculating and emotionless. Which I say “What the hell where you reading? Cause it wasn’t fate.”) and whine about not enough monologues I think this adaption is the best we could get from the source. Not sure if there’s much of a point in reading the source now. Though I am still going to after the run.

@Emma, Fate/stay nights Rider is handicapped by her current master who really can’t do jack besides hold the command spells. With a real master she could show more of her capabilties.
Also I would have been completly surprised if you liked this show.

@Bam: Aidan mentioned seven minutes were cut from an episode. Maybe that’ll be on the blurays.

Is there anything extra on the BD releases? Also I don’t think there were any content censored for the tv broadcast, were there?

I think less than I did before of fate stay nights rider now because she’s not as good as the one from fate/zero.

@Bam: UTW have season 1 BDs up for when you do. Glorious fight scenes, and you can skip the tsundere crap. Win-win.

Now that things have slow down a bit and stil some time left till Witcher 3, I came up with the grand idea of getting around to finishing F/SN UBW route before the series ends so I can jump on the wagon as it rolls thru the last few episodes. I think that’d be kinda cool.

Madhouse is still a very descent animation studio, and some of those older talents still remain with the company, but the market demands that they pander to the supposed “core” anime demographic. Although Masao Murayama did take a lot from Madhouse when he left to form studio MAPPA tho.

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 16

So at the start of this episode featured the big moment of Gilgamesh ripping out Illya’s heart and it was surprisingly underwhelming. It is true that in context this makes more sense and fits his character better. But it is a little disappointing. Strangely this wasn’t how it was in the visual novel and this […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 15

The word that encompasses this episode in a nutshell would be brutal. Whether you love her or hate her, I say few would believe that Illya deserved this fate. The tragedy is ever more pungent if you know the full details of her past. Anime only viewers may not get the most out of this […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 14

As a reader of the Fate/stay night visual novel I can confirm that the majority of this episode was anime original content. However instead of being about castors history like I thought, it’s of his backstory with her first master. In all honestly making the episode be about her history with Jason would have been […]

Some Quick First Impressions: DanMachi, Denpa Kyoushi and Arslan Senki

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Short Synopsis: Our protagonist wants to be an RPG pimp I am getting SAO reminders already. Let me talk about something for a moment. You see when I first played the game dark souls I was frustrated and angry at myself because of my own […]

Some Quick First Impressions: Gunslinger Stratos, Seraph of the end and Yahari season 2

Gunslinger Stratos Short Synopsis: Our protagonist falls into an alternate world full of trigger happy people. I am fairly certain that Gen is not writing this. You can see part of him in the concept but not anywhere else. The episode gave me a mixed impression. I hate the characters and find the main to […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 13

It’s back and still as beautiful as ever. Sadly not a fourty minutes long and still leaves me hungry by episodes end. It does seem to cut off suddenly rather than end. So after telling Shirou to stay away and stating how only masters should stay in the war, Rin is thrust into the exact […]

Death Parade Review – 65/100

When I heard that Death Billards would be getting a full 12 episode series called Death Parade I was quite excited. The one episode short looked to be an excellent concept for a episodic series. A bar which people are sent to when they die which decides whether they go to heaven or hell […]

Death Parade – 12

So this is the end of Death Parade. Or at least this is the end of what may be it’s first and last season. The ongoing plot didn’t so much as tie itself up but rather fizzle out. Leaving a second season to tie up loose ends. A second season that may never come. I […]

Parasyte The Maxim Review-82.5/100

Parasyte, along with Gugure Kokkuri-San, are the only two shows from the last season that I’ve actually finished, and that’s actually saying quite a lot–seeing as how I haven’t been watching (much less blogging) anime at all this past season. However, I figured I should at least write a final review for Parasyte, just because […]

Shirobako Review – 80/100

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]

Everyone’s taste is different, and that’s a wonderful thing because that allows us to have so many different forms of media that all aim toward their own niche. Noucome! You do not want to know how long I have been waiting for a series like this. More than half a decade, at the very least. Finally a series comes along and puts the incredibly overused harem genre in its place. And it actually does it well. Thank you! So to elaborate: the harem […]

Normally I try to avoid spoilers with these reviews, but screw it, it’s Pokemon. Pokemon The Origin is a bomb of nostalgia. Tamayura – More Aggressive Review – 75/100

I’m not going to dedicate a post for my impression for the final three episodes of this series. It was just too boring to write much about. Silver Spoon Review – 86/100

When Noitamina started airing two series per season, it was amazing. Unfortunately it’s a schedule that could not be kept up […]

Yondemasuyo, Azazel-San Z Review – 82,5/100

Reviewing a comedy sequel usually is quite simple: in most cases it just drops the bomb and runs out of inspiration, and in rare cases it actually manages to stay hilarious. The tricky thing with these kinds of series is that you need to remain funny, and you need to have the inspiration for that. […]
