Short Synopsis: A-Laws gathers up all of its forces for an all-out attack on the CBs.
Episode Rating: 7,5/10 (Good)
I keep expecting this series to become a trainwreck… and it doesn’t. Seriously, there was so much potential for these final episodes to delve into a scream-fest, but aside from some slight annoyances (Louise mostly) the finale of this series hasn’t become a total disaster at all. This episode too was again a very good one, strangely enough.

Finally the character-development comes together a bit, and instead of the scream-fest in the veins of Zeta Gundam that I was expecting, the finale seems to be heading much more in the style of Gundam Wing. While there is no huge battleship to crash into the earth (unless Veda decides to plummet into the earth somehow), it basically was a string of very solid all-out battles together with character-development that instead of spiralling out of control made the cast come more together. Exactly what was happening in this episode.

The ending of this episode was also really interesting, with Regetta killing Ribbons, but then again: this remains Sunrise. Ribbons really sounds like a guy who wouldn’t die even if you killed him, and although the idea of Regetta being the new main villain, I first want to see Ribbons really dead in the next episode.

In any case, this series still can go anywhere. It can still be the series to restore the faith in the Gundam Franchise after the likes of Gundam Seed Destiny, or it can just become one total disaster. And I really hope that it’s going to be the former.

Ribbons is shown in next episode’s preview. I think Gundam SEED Destiny still holds the record for the shortest death though. IIRC, Athrun’s nuclear-powered gundam gets impaled and blown up, and he gets rescued in the same episode.

  2. TJ says:

Regene kills Ribbons, but then Ribbons reappears in the previews… no need to make it that obvious Sunrise.

Anyways, nice episode though. Love the battles. We’ll see shat Ribbon’s Clone Army can do.

“I keep expecting this series to become a trainwreck…and it doesn’t”

Ironically, other people would argue it already is one, if you look around the web in the “right” places.

Either they’re “wrong” or there are some double standards somewhere…maybe because with all due respect, I think that buzzword has become as worthless as toilet paper these days. But that’s probably a different debate.

The actual episode was pretty good, although it keeps doing things I didn’t really want to see (let’s have a clone army, anyone?). And poor Ribbons is most certainly alive, going by the preview, one way or another.

If you ask me, 00 can just be a pretty good series with certain ups and downs. I really don’t like how it seems one must either love or hate these days with no tolerance for anything in between.

I see all of the CB pilots dying except for MAYBE Setsuna, and maybe Saji. And maybe Soma..

  5. C160 says:

Its funny how you didn’t comment on the clone army in your review psgels, cause I thought that would be the first thing you’ll point out in your review when I watched the episode ^_^

  6. Gustavo says:

You really have a thing against Zeta, dont you? Always trying to make a bad image of it, saying it was emo? Zeta was never emo. And, you see, it was the second Gundam made, and the first with so many deaths… So, take in consideration the time it was made, ok? Dont judge it having im mind all the others gundams.

  7. psgels psgels says:

Well, it’s just my opinion after all, but all I saw in the final half of Zeta Gundam was a bunch of angsty teenagers screaming and whining. I know I’m harsh on that series, but that’s because I really liked the very first Gundam, which was produced about six years earlier. I’ve seen quite a few good series from the seventies and eighties, so why shouldn’t Zeta Gundam have been able to come up with a good story?

That’s all right, we all know how bad your taste in good directing is. What else can we expect from a person who actually enjoyed trainwreck that was “Blade of Immortal”

  9. psgels psgels says:

Okay, Karry convinced me not to use the word “trainwreck” anymore. Apparently everyone here has a different interpretation of what it means.

Think I will save the shirobako review for tomorrow. Got it mostly written up but I think I need to fine tune it a bit more

Yeah definitely. I think it’s really fucked up at how many series totally shit on their queer couples like?? Why not represent them to show that they can work and are normal.

Although I think I would be amused/entertained by the ridiculousness of a lesbian mindfuck time travel plot for the sheer chaos/nonsense of it. But seriously speaking Aries, while I haven’t kept up, these endings which avoid the “Punishment ending” trope are progress and there needs to be more of them.

But I mean it was very silly show to begin with but it was fun and is definitely anime of the season

I feel like this is one of the few yuri series where the lead couple dont get fucked over with and can live happily ever after.

Like the storyline makes perfect sense and it got more straight forward as the series went on.

Aidan, No actually! It was the first happy ending I think Ikuhara has done and it resolved everything and made me quite emotional!

Death Parade Review – 65/100

When I heard that Death Billards would be getting a full 12 episode series called Death Parade I was quite excited. The one episode short looked to be an excellent concept for a episodic series. A bar which people are sent to when they die which decides whether they go to heaven or hell […]

Death Parade – 12

So this is the end of Death Parade. Or at least this is the end of what may be it’s first and last season. The ongoing plot didn’t so much as tie itself up but rather fizzle out. Leaving a second season to tie up loose ends. A second season that may never come. I […]

Parasyte The Maxim Review-82.5/100

Parasyte, along with Gugure Kokkuri-San, are the only two shows from the last season that I’ve actually finished, and that’s actually saying quite a lot–seeing as how I haven’t been watching (much less blogging) anime at all this past season. However, I figured I should at least write a final review for Parasyte, just because […]

Death Parade – 11

So we are reaching the final conclusion and things are coming to a head. Chiyuki’s memories are restored and we find that in life she was an ice skater. An odd choice but it did lead to a rather beautiful scene of Chiyuki skating on Ice as she recalled her past. Admittedly I did try […]

Death Parade – 10

So Onna name is finally revealed and newly christened Chiyuki plays a game of old maid with a storyteller. Death parade, you are doing it again. You are drifting from what should be the focus of the series and really pushing this ongoing plot thread. So we learn a number of things. One, that Chiyuki’s […]

Durarara!!X2 – 09

In reflection I think Durarara may have been a poor choice to blog. The reason being that when I sat down to watch this episode I was fully intent on finding something I could comment on. Then as the end credits roll I find myself at a loss to what to write about. With […]

Death Parade – 09

Well the end of the episode did get over melodramatic but still, a very good episode. It is rather amusing to see two people bond over a shared goal of revenge. Their thinking slowly edged towards a dangerous outlook it became clear that one of these two is not on the same wavelength as the […]

Durarara!!X2 – 08

No animation issues this time around thankfully. Really like the touch of Irelands flag on the cup Shinra gave the girl at their apartment. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that Celty is indeed Irish. Probably one of the few Irish characters in anime. And here we learn that the one who told the little girl […]

Death Parade – 08

Why do you do this to me death parade? You dodge your true potential and instead focus on background exposition or, of all things, comedy. Then just as I was about to lose interest and give up, you present the best episode of the series so far. Now this, this is what I was talking […]

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]

Kyousogiga Review – 90/100

Everyone’s taste is different, and that’s a wonderful thing because that allows us to have so many different forms of media that all aim toward their own niche. Noucome! You do not want to know how long I have been waiting for a series like this. More than half a decade, at the very least. Finally a series comes along and puts the incredibly overused harem genre in its place. And it actually does it well. Thank you! So to elaborate: the harem […]

Pokemon: The Origin Review – 75/100

Normally I try to avoid spoilers with these reviews, but screw it, it’s Pokemon. Pokemon The Origin is a bomb of nostalgia. Tamayura – More Aggressive Review – 75/100

I’m not going to dedicate a post for my impression for the final three episodes of this series. It was just too boring to write much about. Silver Spoon Review – 86/100

When Noitamina started airing two series per season, it was amazing. It’s a timeslot that on average tends to be aimed at a much older audience than usual, and having two series with the same mentality definitely helped to bring more diversity to anime overall. Unfortunately it’s a schedule that could not be kept up […]

Yondemasuyo, Azazel-San Z Review – 82,5/100

Reviewing a comedy sequel usually is quite simple: in most cases it just drops the bomb and runs out of inspiration, and in rare cases it actually manages to stay hilarious. Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet Review – 81/100

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet tells the storyline of a planet that is completely submerged, with only giant ships residing on the surface, while one of those ships gets visited by this guy and his AI-mecha from this very technologically advanced civilization. Yes, this show is about world building. What this show managed to do […]
