And this episode starts what’s probably going to be the final arc of the first (and really hopefully not last!) season of Guin Saga. It turns out that we’re going to go to large scale warfare again, since the main focus is going to be Remus, getting Parro back from the Mongols. And damn, I really have to say that after the change of clothes he and Linda got they look a lot more mature than when they walked around in those silly robes and pirate clothes.

I wonder what Guin is going to do in this arc. While he was the main character of the first half of this series, his role got much smaller in the second half in which the focus fell more on Ardnaris and Remus. The end of this episode shows a bunch of people who seem to be after him, but I still don’t see him picking up the lead role in this arc any time soon.

The romance also got developed in this episode. Remus turned into a huge chick magnet and landed himself a future wife, and in the meantime Istvan temporarily says goodbye to Linda as he attempts to become a worthy man to become her husband.

linda is such a whore, no wonder

    istavan turns evil later on

Can anyone explain why Naris look even more of a woman now than before? Did he have a sex change after faking his death? lol!!

  3. flare says:

    Thanks for blogging Guin Saga.
Anyways, I think Linda and Istavahns got fond of each other way too fast…for example I guess 2-D of some sort..?

  4. Orange says:

Great serie, the animation budget is wisely use, each episode feel the same except for the Guin fight scenes wich get some extra boost ^^… I could only complain about the lack of development of some story points and Istovan as a whole (pedo doesn’t help, he?). Naris and Guin FTW!!!

  5. ssj4jw says:

I remember someone said not to become too attached to the current couples a few episodes ago. I also heard that the first sixteen volumes of the light novels will be adapted. Hopefully this will end Istovann being a ephebophile.

  6. Haganeno says:

This anime is incredible.Only 26? What a shame!
Rinda and Istavan, they are such a great couple!

  7. marumama says:

    green,
    Linda is not a whore,
    and Ishtovan won`t become evil.

  8. hairgreen says:

    Marumama,

    spoiler

If Linda were not a whore, how come she is so willing to marry her brother later on in the story?

  9. marumama says:

It will not be happen what you said about Linda on the later story.
I have read the whole volume of the story.
You have completely miss understand something about the story or you are talking an other novel.

yea how is this show not popular?! its one of the few new anime that i can watch straight. i liked phantom too but i feel guin saga is better :o

  11. tazman0208 says:

Ok first of all how is Istovan a pedophile? Linda is 15 and he’s 19-20 (we know this from the time he was a spy in the Mongol army and that old man commander asked him his age. @psgels: you mentioned that Rinda and Remus look more mature, well that’s to be expected seeing as they where 14 when the story started and now they are 15, the anime doesnt show it but a whole year has passed since they escaped from the palace until they returned.

  12. Rob Hiengler says:

How is Istovan a pedophile? Unfortunately as Rinda/Linda? has gone through puberty he technically isn’t although it does make him a hebephile, either way I found that part of the story the most disconcerting and quite honestly a 20 yo kissing a 14/15 yo I’m pretty sure would be molestation under western law, but hey the Japanese have a penchant for this sick kind of thing; would explain why a lot of Japanese schoolgirls are prostitutes.

WHAT?! This is tremendous news. Many thanks @Badesh for sharing.
But Koei Tecmo out of all people? I guess we’re getting the Dynasty/Hyrule Warriors treatment. Where is the FromSoftware developed Hidetaka Miyazaki directed Berserk that was rumored? I guess better than nothing- which has been the mantra of us Berserk fans for a while now. Being a Berserk fan, is being Guts -> which is suffering.

new one. the first teaser didn’t contain any gameplay just the first bit with cascar being snuggled by tentacles. it was how they introduced the new game to me. maybe i should feel raped as well…

@Badesh: which one? Cuz I played thru both the Dreamcast and the PS2 version. The Dreamcast one was a stand-alone story, but it was both a good one written by Miura, and it was set between Vol22 and Vol23, so it didn’t interfere with the manga’s story. The PS2 one was almost a chapter-by-chapter adaptation of the Holy Demon War section, and it featured the de-facto Berserk theme ‘Sign’ by Hirasawa himself:

They did the same thing to promote the video game! Srsly?
Besides, i really enjoy the new series as a long time fan.. can’t exactly point out why. I like the action and for every shitty shot, we get an awesome one.

Also Caska’s back to being brown. So I guess some things are getting fixed as we go on.

That’s why is disheartening to see that the post-credit scene of ep03 was ignored by so many, specially considering the quality of the animation and the importance it had to the plot and course of the show.

Now I’m not going to deny the toxicity of some of the so-called “hardcore” fanbase- the Skullknight community is a testament to that. I’ve seen too many people claim that they’re done with the series, only yo come back every week and nag about the same redundant points over and over again. The show has had much more traditional animation than I’ve originally anticipated.

The music is a great example of that. The 97 series created a surreal somber atmosphere, with a lot of that piggybacking on Susumu Hirasawa’s weird soundtrack. Look at the new series intro- that is as tone-deaf as it can get. I much rather preferred a black screen with a red Berserk logo over this shonenesque song. Caska’s rape as an eyecatch? yeah, they are seriously mislead as to the significance of that scene.

Now I’m a big Berserk fan, anyone here can attest to that, and I’m glad to have some Berserk, in whatever form we can get. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to overlook the deficiencies. I still stand by my point, which is that the new series doesn’t primarily suffer from the animation, as I think a lot can be achieved in the format as evidence by the last two episodes, but the main point of contention is the overall tone which doesn’t fit Berserk.

And Berserk is panned for the CG, not only because of the unconventionality, but also since it isn’t particularly strong CGI neither. Sidonia was well-received, and that uses CG a lot more than Berserk. Since the manga has extraordinary line work, people want to see the same level of detail. The 97 series also works against the New one, since although it had minimal budget, it still had much superior cohesion.

Truth be told, I’ve never seen any of the EVA franchise, and it’s not normal since EVA is a must for any anime viewer. I don’t really know the reason why I keep myself from watching it, maybe both because mecha is not my favorite genre, and the hype of EVA is just overwhelming that […]

Berserk(2016) – 03

Orange – 03

So this week we finally encounter a love rival. Of course with a romance drama show like Orange there had to be someone who would stand on their way right? Except there’s not much of a rival really since Naho never stands a chance against the new girl Ueda. As she learns hard and clear […]

91 Days – 02

At this point I think it’s clear what kind of show we are getting. It’s not Hitman Reborn which essentially uses its mafia inspiration as window dressing for shounen battles. Nor is it Baccano with a silly yet funny atmosphere combining the prohibition setting and supernatural. No, what we have here is the old school […]

Looks like the new opening and ending won’t be getting much use in this second cour either, not that I am complaining of course. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 3rei – 02

It is safe to say that to get the most out of this series, you have got to be a Fate fan. There are numerous little easter eggs calling back to it, even Kirei’s signature “Rejoice” line. However I say even casual fans could get something out of this series as well. Provided they made […]

Let me say up front that I am not fond with either romance or melodrama. We usually mistaken romance for love but whenever I think about love I’d think of commitment. Melodrama don’t do well to me either as I always feel forced, like most of the time when the show goes big, emotional scenes, […]

My Life as a Courgette (2016) Movie Review – 82/100

It’s never easy to make a good family’s animation. For movies aim at adults, the filmmakers can easily get themselves loose, go crazy and the audience can still get it. But for kids, these movies might be one of the first movies they’ve ever seen and that’s a huge responsibility. They have to aware of […]

Flying witch Review – 86/100

As I mentioned in one of my weekly posts, most of the reason why a slice-of-life anime show don’t work well is not because there’s nothing happen, but more because the cast isn’t interesting enough or the show tends to repeat the things that we already know. I’m happy to say that this is not […]
