What an ending. Out of all of the shows that ended in the past weeks that still need a second season (which really are a lot), Guin Saga deserves it the most. This episode only made this series even more intriguing, but at the same time it’s also a bit disheartening that out of all those shows, no second season has been announced at all, apart from a small OVA for GA. I have this fear that in these times of economic crisis, only the series that sell really well end up getting their second season, and that really puts the Guin Saga at a disadvantage.

But yeah, in this episode we get the first real hint that the thing that possessed Remus isn’t going to be an entirely good thing for him. Sure, it made his testicles drop and gave him the much-needed courage, but there has to be a reason for the thing to have done this, and I doubt that it did this for Remus’ sake.

The fight between Istvan and Guin was also very intense. When this series animates one-on-one fights, they really kick ass, and the creators really manage to portray the sheer force of Guin’s strength. I was a bit afraid that Guin was going to remain in Parro after he saved Remus and Linda, but at this point it really looks like the second season, if it’s ever going to show up, is going to focus on him on his own, rather than as Remus and Linda’s bodyguard.

Overall, my top 3 of series that aired during the past spring season is at this point pretty much 1) Phantom 2) Shangri-La 3) Guin Saga, although there are still three strong series that still haven’t finished yet (Konnichiwa Anne, Full Metal Alchemist and Cross Game), and there is a chance that one of these is going to take over one of these places if they manage to finish with a really strong final part, but for now Guin Saga really stands among my favourites of the past half year. It really was nearly everything that epic fantasy should be, save from the large-scale battles.

The ED, which was played in its entirety in this episode, really deserves to stand among the greatest EDs that aired this past half year. The singer really has an amazing voice, and the whole song really complements the epic nature of this series.
Rating: ** (Excellent)

I can’t see any of those finishing within the next couple weeks. Do you mean just if their last episodes of the season go well, or just that you might change your mind some months from now, when they’ve actually ended?

Yeah, I mean the latter. The top 3 I just gave is just about the past half year, but in the case of these three series I of course can’t make a definite top 3 of the past Spring Season yet.

    I am still back @ ep 16

Fucking epic ending (for now!) for this show, I really like when a show puts an end to the battle just before the final episode in order to give it a slower pace and better closure for the characters. The show did had some awkward moments as well as awkward designs but it had this feeling of epicness where each encounters would mean a lot to the story, that final confrontation between Istovan and Guin is an excellent set up for a sequel (please, just do it guys). Guin, come back… Suni, Rinda, every one of us want you to stand once again!!!

Guin Saga is based on a book trilogy of the same name. The anime season was adapted out of only the first 20 volumes out of 130 total. I think there is a good chance of us getting another season.

Anon: there’s no doubt that there’s enough material. The question is more like: do the creators of the anime see money in another season?” That’s where the problem with most adaptations lie.

Amazing ending to an amazing anime is all I can say, the whole series however gave off the feeling of a prologue.. as if this whole 26 episode anime is just the beginning of the story of Guin (one can only hope for a second, third and more seasons to come). This final episode had it all, from Remus the Lich King to Guin’s epic Falcon Punch. This was truly an anime that felt right from the start, you know the feeling you get after finishing a certain anime and feel that something is missing or that you are just not satisfied and feel that you wasted your time…. Well Guin Saga, even though it gives no closure whatsoever, makes you not once regret that you watched such an epic series and wish for more.

guin saga was a pretty good anime but i have doubts that there coming out with a second season becauce i read that the magna writer had died if by any chance they do there would prabaly still more to come but dont get your hopes up im not.

  9. J darrko says:

thats why theres the magna to read they are a little exspencive but there worth it one of the best magnas is berserk everyone should try watching the anime first

  10. Rob Hiengler says:

So did Kaoru Kurimoto actually finish the 130th chapter? I heard she was too ill (from cancer) and stopped writing before she died: was the novel and story ever finished?

Anyway only thing I was interested in was who is Guin. All the other characters with hackneyed names meh! I mean come on Rinda “Farseer” and Istavan “Spellsword”, its a pity because it was reasonably good, although nowhere as near as good as Dune.

worth the watch, good series good finish, it has done for me what every anime series converted from manga are made to do, make me want to read the manga.

I recommend this series to anyone who likes action packed anime with a good story and its easy on the eyes!

Hmm… Can anyone remind me of one thing? Is this the point where most of harem scenes are over(well manga isn’t finished, but so far)? I do remember there being more slice of life stuff after this point in manga, but I don’t remember there being as much or at least there being as long break from action ._.

@Aidan: If this was the world of sharin no kuni we could place and “obligation of maximum penalty” on Kevin. If it was the world of fate stay night we could summon him as a servant and use command seals on him.

@emma, Unless the guy comments on a review I can’t do jack.
He’s harmless though. Remember that in truth when he calls everyone pathetic, he is really unknowingly referring to himself. I mean the guy goes out of his way to come on this site and insult everyone. Pretty sure he has been banned twice before and yet the guy keeps coming back. Really only someone with no life does that.

Okay, I am willing to give gangsta a shot. I liked most of black lagoon and some of jormungand, sometimes I can enjoy a story with mob/gangster elements like Layer cake and road to perdition, le samourai, infernal affairs, reservoir dogs. But then again I hated that Yakuza arc in black lagoon and the gangster genre if usually something I’m not generally into. Also how shounen is gangsta?

Knights of Sidonia S2: Battle for Planet Nine review – 73/100

The second season of Sidonia makes a number of mistakes that a lot of second seasons do. That namely being that the anime slows down and introduces characters and conflicts that are often resolved in a undetermined to exist, third season. A new antagonist is introduced, whom does very little in the season and only […]

Knights of Sidonia S2 – 12

Tanikaze’s rendezvous with Benizumie looks to have been cut short as Izana interrupted with some hacker magic. The entire sequence being as uncomfortable and disturbing as you could imagine. I still wonder just what was her goal in doing all this to Tanikaze. Was it some method of killing him or just some really kinky […]

Knights of Sidonia S2 – 11

It’s quite the coincidence that both shows I am covering have decided to use their last episodes to make up for the season’s shortcomings. This will be a short post as while action packed episodes are great to watch, they make it hard to bring up topics to talk about. Guana look to be imitating […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 24

Now this is more like it. Well as they say, better late than never and this was at least the best moment to bring back the quality. All I ask is where this was three episodes ago which it could have made all the difference in the world. Admittedly this episode has made me a […]

Knights of Sidonia S2 – 10

Unfortunately this wasn’t the time for Izana to become an ace pilot though she did at least show some ingenuity in her escape from gauna. Instead the spotlight falls once again to Tsugumi and Tanikaze. A lot of the fight scenes before the challenger appeared was to shown that Tsugumi and Tanikaze have great teamwork […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 23

Sometimes it’s hard being a veteran anime fan and a huge Fate Franchise fan. I sit down to watch the latest episode of this series and I want to shut up the cynical critic in the back of my brain pointing out everything that is wrong with this episode. But as events I adored from […]

Knights of Sidonia S2 – 9

Though the majority of the episode was of the same antics I have been complaining about in previous episodes, it’s nice to see Sidonia get back to what it does best. Dire situations and sci-fi mecha action. Izana being pushed into the role of scouting with a new weapon has to be the best path […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 22

A fairly uneventful episode this week.In some ways for me that’s good as it allows me to go into detail about the nature of the ever so popular CGI dolpins. But first let’s speak about what happened. Our three heroes had a strategy meeting discussing how to deal with Gilgamesh and the grail while all […]

Knights of Sidonia S2 – 8

I think something is wrong when I consider a protagonist from a movie these characters are watching a more compelling lead than our current one. I was surprised when starting the episode to see a sudden rise in visual quality only for it to turn out to be a movie within an anime. Actually I […]

Shirobako Review – 80/100

When you see a harem anime and sigh as the breasts of the female lead jiggle with every step and wind that can flip a skirt it’s easy to forget that somewhere in Japan a group of people worked hard to get that jiggle right and draw each frame of animation. The hardships of the […]

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]

Kyousogiga Review – 90/100

Everyone’s taste is different, and that’s a wonderful thing because that allows us to have so many different forms of media that all aim toward their own niche. Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Lovecome o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru Review – 80/100

Noucome! You do not want to know how long I have been waiting for a series like this. More than half a decade, at the very least. Finally a series comes along and puts the incredibly overused harem genre in its place. And it actually does it well. Thank you! So to elaborate: the harem […]

Normally I try to avoid spoilers with these reviews, but screw it, it’s Pokemon. Pokemon The Origin is a bomb of nostalgia. Tamayura – More Aggressive Review – 75/100

I’m not going to dedicate a post for my impression for the final three episodes of this series. It was just too boring to write much about. Silver Spoon Review – 86/100

When Noitamina started airing two series per season, it was amazing. It’s a timeslot that on average tends to be aimed at a much older audience than usual, and having two series with the same mentality definitely helped to bring more diversity to anime overall. Unfortunately it’s a schedule that could not be kept up […]
