So yeah, I made it to the quarterfinals of the Aniblog Tourney. Thanks everyone for voting so far.

This time I’m up against Impz and his posse. Be sure to check it out before voting, but chances are that you already know about it.

Anyway, for the THAT groupies who have come to check out this site: welcome to Star Crossed. I’ve been blogging series weekly for about four and a half years now. I also write series reviews and first impression, all of which you can find in the sidebar below.

I feel the pain of a huge thrashing coming up very soon on me. :

  2. Machi says:

Groupies? There are groupies for this thing O.o

  3. tk007 says:

Finally, the day has to come for me to choose between these two sites. In the end, I chose this site because of the divergence from mainstream, better navigation and frequency of update.

LOL. I guess that makes me and you and others who frequent this blog the psgels groupies.

  5. Keith says:

psgels, I like your blog so much I want to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant

  6. c160 says:

Diverse taste, opinionated posts and general niceness got me as a fan of your blog :)
Kept it short in order to not sound too much like a love letter :D

  7. cx says:

    Pretty much over now.

  8. Somnium says:

I was sold on psgels blog as soon as I saw all his pretty pictures! Now I’m just hanging around until he blogs Last Exile! Just kidding, all of my loyalties are with Star Crossed!

  9. Nemo says:

Hard decision as I like both blogs, but I voted for this one as I have been reading it for much longer and usually you have good reliable reviews that are similar to what I think.

  10. Jeis says:

Psgels, you just come across ridiculious intelligent and I can’t even count the amount of masterpieces I ended watching due to your blog, and find my self always coming back here before watching series or trying to find good series to watch =). Your blog is certainly a cup of tea.

  11. Frost says:

Hehe, Im confident you will win the whole thing :P and you deserve it… the only anime blog I have ever bookmarked and visit frequently, and as others said, there are a lot of interesting unknown animes I would never have found if it werent for you

    So yeah, Go for it!

  12. AKI says:

Three years now and I’m still reading your blog. That alone gets you my vote.

  13. Theowne says:

Voted for psgels, of course. At least five of my favourite series I watched due to reviews on this site. Plus he’s just an A+ dude.

It’s also the only site I will tolerate captcha-comments for.

  14. shirokiryuu says:

I’ve been following this blog for a long time, and while That anime blog is a great blog, and you always review more obscure shows and give them a chance.

  15. Ncky says:

I follow this blog for almost 1 year. Thanks to you I saw very special anime’s I didn’t knew about, for example Simoun. I think your anime choices are very interesting! So please keep it up!

  16. Troyen says:

Well, before this post it looked like a tough fight (psgels was actually losing with over 100 votes cast), but now…

  17. Nic says:

Just voted (obviously for this blog) it’s thanks to psgels that I’ve seen so many excellent shows that I probably wouldn’t have even heard of otherwise…my tastes align much better with the shows blogged on star crossed than they do with the other blogs that seem to review only the more popular shows…and I don’t like either moe or mecha.

  18. Leanie says:

Hope you do well in the tourney. I love your blog; we frequently see eye to eye on a lot of the shows currently coming out in Japan. I mean, you turned me on to Kaiba, my second favorite series after Noein. How could I not love this blog?

  19. Solaris says:

4 great blog made up to the quarters. I really don’t know which one to vote..! I accept bribes now…

oops i incidentally pressed Star Crossed button. It must be the routine :P
And where’s my bribe now?? :/

  20. evolstar says:

Thanks for the blog psgels. Been following it for over a year now- can’t live without it!

  21. Nasary says:

Keep the excellent work! There went my vote…. to your blog of course… To the finals!!!

@Emma Very true. But a lot of people don’t realize or acknowledge that.

Death billiards getting an announcement like that, I’m pleased with the news but am surprised by it. It was the best of those shorts that have been cropping up in recent years.

@Realist: Stereotyping is intrinsic to human beings in too many ways, so much so that even when a “safe”, “attractive”, “normal” looking person is caught out they still become surprised at the revelation, even if they admit that stereotyping is wrong.

I think I’ve got a good handle on Yamaguchi Mikoto as an author now, I also read the first volume of Mayonaka and as I thought, it began deceptively and that maybe there wouldn’t be too much to it, but turns into something surprising, far more interesting.

@Trass, I can sort of understand that. Though as you likely noticed, psgels isn’t as active as he used to be. So rather than let this blog die a slow death it would be better to see something done with it. We ain’t prefect but well people improve over time.

    I came back here after a long while and saw how the blog is active again. I was really excited but then found out it’s not psgels who are writing the posts anymore… I’m happy but really sad at the same time ;w;

@K-off: it wasn’t the most visually impressive episode anyways, so it’s alright is time.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis- 04

By now, I have a general idea of where this story is going. Our characters finally face the main villains of the story and starting next episode, I reckon that we’ll get some real story progression because frankly, the past few episodes did almost nothing to get me to care much for the characters, no matter […]

Nanatsu no Taizai Episode 1-4

Sorry for not giving this a first impression but I felt that to do so at this point would be redundant. So Nanatsu no Taizai, or Seven Deadly Sins if you prefer. An anime that certainly does nothing new. Every ounce of which filled with standard shounen battle manga tropes. Yes this anime does nothing […]

Gugure! Kokkuri-San- 04

By now, I have a general idea of how the writers are going to go forward with this show. This show continues to jump the gun without setting up a clear voice for itself while pulling off some genuinely fun comedy, creating this weird combination that is somewhat off-putting yet fairly enticing. However, this episode […]

Grisaia no Kajitsu – 04

That’s it. I give up. I concede. I throw in the towel. I surrender. This is just a travesty, an unsalvageable mess. I have given this more patience than it deserves and it has rewarded me with tedium. The editing is schizophrenic and distracting. The dialogue and events passing by too fast for emotional impact. […]

Your Lie in April – 02 & 03

Your Lie in April has emerged as a bit of a nice surprise in this young season. The fairly popular noitaminA programming block has been pretty hit-and-miss of late, with some very good shows here and there but a much higher rate of complete duds compared to the block’s past. For this reason I approached […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 03

Well what can I say besides, I told you so. But even though I knew what was coming this is still remarkable. Not only is this episode excellent but it may in fact have topped it’s source material. It is at times like these that it is difficult to be both a Fate fan and […]

Akatsuki no Yona – 03

Hak and Yona flee Soo-Won’s men, but Yona’s mental and physical condition continue to deteriorate. Yona and Hak are both haunted by memories from the past. This was easily the best episode in the series so far. Whereas the first two episodes primarily took place in the present or the future, this episode is mostly spent in […]

Grisaia no Kajitsu – 03

This isn’t looking good. Let me explain, Grisaia has a somewhat nakige visual novel approach. Meaning that it has a comedic relatively plotless first half, followed by a tragic heroine backstory related story arc. Notable examples of this is any Key visual novel anime adaption you can think of. So for the first half we […]

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis- 03

Okay, so this episode didn’t focus on Leone and Amira’s adventure. Instead, it focuses on building Kaisar’s character and it does so a bit awkwardly. This episode takes Kaisar and puts him into an overly bombastic situation in order to tell us about Kaisar’s past family problems, but it was so out of tone from […]

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]

Kyousogiga Review – 90/100

Everyone’s taste is different, and that’s a wonderful thing because that allows us to have so many different forms of media that all aim toward their own niche. My blog is obviously written from the perspective of my own taste, and even when a show doesn’t cater to it (which is nearly always), I love […]

Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Lovecome o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru Review – 80/100

Noucome! You do not want to know how long I have been waiting for a series like this. More than half a decade, at the very least. Finally a series comes along and puts the incredibly overused harem genre in its place. And it actually does it well. Thank you! So to elaborate: the harem […]

Pokemon: The Origin Review – 75/100

Normally I try to avoid spoilers with these reviews, but screw it, it’s Pokemon. Pokemon The Origin is a bomb of nostalgia. If you haven’t played Pokemon Red, Blue or Green, then you will not enjoy this one slight bit. This really is made as pure undilluted fanservice for the fans of the first games. […]

Tamayura – More Aggressive Review – 75/100

I’m not going to dedicate a post for my impression for the final three episodes of this series. It was just too boring to write much about. I guess that that gives a pretty accurate indication of what I think about this series. Right at the start of Tamayura’s second season, I asked one question: […]

Silver Spoon Review – 86/100

When Noitamina started airing two series per season, it was amazing. It’s a timeslot that on average tends to be aimed at a much older audience than usual, and having two series with the same mentality definitely helped to bring more diversity to anime overall. Unfortunately it’s a schedule that could not be kept up […]

Yondemasuyo, Azazel-San Z Review – 82,5/100

Reviewing a comedy sequel usually is quite simple: in most cases it just drops the bomb and runs out of inspiration, and in rare cases it actually manages to stay hilarious. The tricky thing with these kinds of series is that you need to remain funny, and you need to have the inspiration for that. […]

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet Review – 81/100

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet tells the storyline of a planet that is completely submerged, with only giant ships residing on the surface, while one of those ships gets visited by this guy and his AI-mecha from this very technologically advanced civilization. Yes, this show is about world building. What this show managed to do […]
