… they really are going to remain in those outfits for the rest of the series, right? Ah well, I guess it’s nowhere as bad as in the previous episode, and this is something that should have been expected from this series from the start. What matters is the atmosphere: as long as that one’s good, I’ll be happy with this series. When the fanservice gets in the way of this atmosphere, that’s when I’m going to start whining.

This episode did its job well: the city is in a complete chaos and people are continuing to kill each other. People who once were kind now are just looking out for each other. The lead characters are one of the very few who are in the position in which they can really use their heads and start saving people, because they ran into a house with enough supplies and guns to take care of themselves. And I really liked the part in which the characters decided to save that little girl. The CG-zombies were one thing, but the atmosphere and music was very good there. The insert songs also worked surprisingly well. I’d only wish that the creators would have been more subtle with that peeing scene, but why am I expecting subtlety from this series?

This is pretty much wishful thinking on my part, but I’d love to see an epilogue of this series, after everything is over. Like, at the end of the final episode of this series we get a quick view of what the world is going to look like, one year from now. Whether humanity survived, or that there were still no organized actions taken against the zombies. I’d love to see the creators’ take on that, even though I know that that’s far from the focus of this series.

They are more likely to make an epilogue about what underwear the girls will be wearing next year

I guess this is my “mindless entertainment” show of this season, so bad but still fun to watch

  2. Ashura says:

Is it just me or did the insert song sound like MELL?

  3. Marion says:

Unlikely there will be an epilogue of sorts. The manga is still ongoing after all, its just a shame that the series is only 12 episodes.

  4. 3mapletrees says:

I think it was MELL! I noticed it too then checked out the closing credits…I think I saw her name in there.

  5. Thorben says:

Since episode six this show is becoming not only more and more ridiculous, but also disgusting. Even the strong women only moaning about reactionary manliness crap, lecherous and naked girls in underwear, the protagonist beeing peed on – come on, now many hentai topics can you put into just one short episode? Now only the mutated tentacle zombie monster attacking the girls is missing…

Could have been an interesting action show, but like this its not even trash that at least wouldn’t take itself seriously.

  6. DmonHiro says:

The only one talking about manliness is Saeko, and she does it in a bushido way. The rest weren’t happy because Takashi was being manly, it was because he was being courageous, and I agree. What he did was very brave. Only Rei and Shizuka were “lecherous” and that was because I think they were drunk. Takashi being peed on was played for comedy and comedy only, and I found that very amusing, especially when he had the small tear in his eye. So yeah…way to completely miss the point and focus on “OMG, too many tits, this sucks”. The hell were you expecting anyway? You didn’t see the trailer, or the previous episodes?

  7. I stand by my initial take on this series: that with the right level of editing, it could have been a very solid series but the challenge of what to cut where, what story to tell where, and how to keep the pacing up to speed and not get caught up in various forms of PORN was beyond what I expected from the team.

In short, the show needed at least 2 of the current main characters to be killed in the first or second episode to escape the gravity of gun-porn and cute-boob-humor.

crashing back to earth, now extended across the 5 remaining eps :(

  8. thomas says:

It’s enjoyable but this could have been so, so much better. But even if it’s basically hitting all the anime cliches, the “original” theme makes it worth a watch.

  9. Watcherzero says:

Ive enjoyed the slight remixes of themes from other zombie flicks that have been in the series. The main theme from 28 days later and the themes from the Romero films.

  10. Elva says:

the main hero is such a idiot…he makes a mess and then his crew has to clean up after him…i dont think thats an original plot…but then again this show all about stuffing it with fanservices and gore so…i guess i just have to drop this anime…

@Aidan: I didn’t know that. There was a lot of details that exactly correspond to the Titanic that I left out, and come to think of it they are rather fishy and too specific, but the gist of the original book was probably coincidentally similar to the event; namely an unsinkable ship called Titan sinking on its maiden voyage.

If I recall correctly it the titanic was an Irish backed/built/funded ship…I think…

@Bam, that book is questionable. The author wrote the book and after the titanic republished it and edited it to relate it more to the tragedy.

I want a yandere magical girl one that is outwardly a kuudere.

It was implied that something deluded her, especially the shows themselves.
She wanders the streets hoping to be killed by someone as insane as herself.

I can recall coming up with the idea of a homeless girl who thinks she’s a magical girl and she goes around dismembering people (well decapitation at least) and when she accepts she’s actually crazy and she’s the real monster she tries to impale herself through the face by jumping from a height onto the wand (which isn’t really a wand) but any chance of atonement by her taking her own life is prevented so she’s forced to live on with what she did.

I don’t know, in my opinion any potential that a magical girl series could possibly have is usually undermined by their repetitive formulatic nature.

When I first came to this site was on a comedy/magical girl/romcomdrama kick but I’ve gone out of the mood again for a bit now.

Now if that coincidence is possible then all bets are off, and maybe a magical girl show made by Toei called Go! Princess Precure could be a great series.

Death Parade – 04

Now this is more like it. An arcade game between two strangers with dark pasts. Excellent. But both did have a similar problem. That being they are both people who couldn’t see past themselves. It’s nice to see people react differently to the game. Here we have the two of them mistaking it for a […]

Durarara!!X2 – 03

If its one thing you to can credit Narita for it that just when you think he cannot possibly make a stranger character, he then does. So the monster that Shizu smashed into the air in the last moment gets their story told and I am sure there are not many who would have guessed […]

Death Parade – 03

Well this isn’t quite what I expected. This episode was a much more lighthearted fare with it being about love. It was better than the last episode but still not to the level I expected from this series. The game this time barely factored into the story at all. The twist on it was that […]

Durarara!!X2 – 02

If this episode had a focus then the stars would be Celty and the Orihara sisters. Though there were other events such as Anri and Mikado going to karaoke with Erika and Walker but it wasn’t really all the important and seemed to be there to foreshadow a new character and set up what looks […]

Death Parade – 02

Well this isn’t the best start. I must admit to being disappointed in this weeks Death Parade. Mainly because it was essentially a recap of the first episode. This episode was from the perspective of two characters who were watching the events of the first episode. With a white haired ponytail girl introducing another to […]

Some Really Quick First Impressions: The Leftovers

Sorry for leaving these out but they are not really worthy of a full impression. So I am just tossing down my two cents here. Seiken Tsukai no World Break – Hoo boy…maybe I spoke too soon about Juuou Mujin no Fafnir being worse than Absolute Duo. Because beside this trash heap it’s at least […]

Some Quick First Impressions: The Rolling Girls, Yoru no Yatterman and Sengoku Musou

The Rolling Girls Short Synopsis: What did I just watch? I am just going to break it to you. I have no idea what to think of this show. This is a work by the same studio who animated Attack on titan. It is an anime original show (meaning it is not based on anything) […]

Some Quick First Impressions: Durarara!!X2, Soukyuu no Fafner Dead Aggressor – Exodus and Aldnoah Zero Season 2

Durarara!!X2 Short Synopsis: People are strange, when you’re a stranger. It felt like a lot happened, but nothing really changed. That is the first season of Durarara summarized perfectly. The show itself even seems to revel in this. That said the main enjoyment of Durarara is seeing the cast of wacky characters interact with each […]

Some Quick First Impressions: Kantai Collection, The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls and Tokyo Ghoul √A

Kantai Collection Short Synopsis: Our protagonist sucks at playing battleship This is an anime based on the popular browser game of the same name. I haven’t played it but from what I hear it has ship daughters and some form of strategy. So I went into this blind, not knowing what I would get. That […]

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]

Kyousogiga Review – 90/100

Everyone’s taste is different, and that’s a wonderful thing because that allows us to have so many different forms of media that all aim toward their own niche. Noucome! You do not want to know how long I have been waiting for a series like this. More than half a decade, at the very least. Finally a series comes along and puts the incredibly overused harem genre in its place. And it actually does it well. Thank you! So to elaborate: the harem […]

Pokemon: The Origin Review – 75/100

Normally I try to avoid spoilers with these reviews, but screw it, it’s Pokemon. Pokemon The Origin is a bomb of nostalgia. Tamayura – More Aggressive Review – 75/100

I’m not going to dedicate a post for my impression for the final three episodes of this series. It was just too boring to write much about. I guess that that gives a pretty accurate indication of what I think about this series. Right at the start of Tamayura’s second season, I asked one question: […]

Silver Spoon Review – 86/100

When Noitamina started airing two series per season, it was amazing. It’s a timeslot that on average tends to be aimed at a much older audience than usual, and having two series with the same mentality definitely helped to bring more diversity to anime overall. Unfortunately it’s a schedule that could not be kept up […]

Yondemasuyo, Azazel-San Z Review – 82,5/100

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet Review – 81/100

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet tells the storyline of a planet that is completely submerged, with only giant ships residing on the surface, while one of those ships gets visited by this guy and his AI-mecha from this very technologically advanced civilization. Yes, this show is about world building. What this show managed to do […]
