After the end of the previous episode, I already had a suspicion that this episode would focus on Ouji’s plans to create the earth rangers. That indeed turned out to be true, but I didn’t expect him to kidnap a group of innocent children to do it. Seriously, this episode was just nothing but a grown man grabbing a bunch of random kids and playing a ridiculously unfair game with them. And it was hilarious.

It’s perhaps not as good as the previous episodes, but even then I absolutely loved this episode. It again takes a group of random guys, this time in middle school, and this time it’s non fiction. Again, their designs were nicely unconventional for anime, and really feel like Ouji picked the nearest five kids that he could find. The way in which they tried to deal with the fact that they had been turned into power rangers (without any actual powers besides a bunch of illegal ones) in a great little parody of the super sentai genre.

This episode subverted a ton of these tropes, like how most kids who get these powers really aren’t going to play along, and how for some the powers may just rise to their heaDS. Or the way in which they couldn’t use most of their weapons because they were grossly illegal.

I also liked that twist with the teacher, and how she as an alien immediately noticed that something was up, and also how she laughed when she found out that Ouji was behind everything. I’m not sure whether this was a one shot episode or whether it’s going to continue next week. That would be interesting, if only to see a bunch of kids beat up Kraft.
Rating: ** (Excellent)

From the preview this will continue next week… It wasn’t as interesting as the previous episodes but it still was fresh and funny xD

  2. Blade says:

Awww. Worst score yet. Anime dropped.
    j/k

  3. K.K. says:

This show is just so much better than everything else airing now, it’s ridiculous. I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time I was watching.

The rangers have multiple episodes, which is good. “Battle Pocari” just makes me laugh.

  4. Tomtom says:

Although this episode was hilarious (again), part of me hopes the show will not ONLY be about the prince’s pranks for the rest of its run.

  5. dthiswhtuseek says:

unfortunately for you that is how the entire series will run, although the way he plays his pranks will be pretty diverse so it will still be hilarious. Well, there are two points that don’t really have pranks the prince pulled but whatever, just watch the show it’s great.

  6. maskedguy says:

    @Blade: Lolwhut, you must have reaaaaaaaaaally high standards ._.;

@Tomtom: What? You hope this will became serious action series? Well, if it makes you feel better, there are four stories which aren’t about Prince’s pranks =P(I think one of them doesn’t even have appearance by him…)

  7. maskedguy says:

    @Blade: Oops. Sorry, missed the joke AND the “j/k” ^^;

  8. Tomtom says:

@masked guy. That’s not what I meant (or said). I just hope that the jokes will be woven into some overall plot/ continuous story line, instead a string of random stuff.

  9. Tan-Tan says:

    THE BLUE RANGER IS GON

  10. AKI says:

    @Tan-Tan

That’s what I thought too. What the hell is Gon doing in this anime series, lol’d.

  11. tanukichan says:

Haha, is it just me or is there a little reference to Doraemon by Lil Prince when he took out the nuclear missile?

I’m loving this show. They’re going a darn good job translating the manga jokes to anime form: first the video diary, now the 3D Prince, and so on.

  12. maskedguy says:

@Tan-Tan & AKI: Well, Level E manga was drawn by the same guy who does Hunter X Hunter.(and did that series where guy shoot spirit bullet things from finger… Forgot the name even though its rather famous XD)

    I know it’s Yoshihiro Togashi!

Still such a grade A troll. Great episode as usual.

It’s either a 4.5 and a Mobius, or an Occulus and a better graphic card for me; can’t swing both ways on that unless I come into some money.

I’m not into Nintendo at all and their offerings over the last few years doesn’t do anything for me. I’m looking forward to the PS4.5 and getting a VR headset for my PC though…

The only Japanese games that make it big are the ones that rely on brand recognition or some simple yet polished gimmick. Souls games get around actual size by forcing repetition due to difficulty, otherwise they’ll be crushed against the Witchers and Elder Scrolls of the world. Aside from such niche markets, only Nintendo, SquareEnix and Capcom remain.

AAA games take a lot to produce. With the sandbox world becoming a staple in gaming, and shoehorned into every imaginable genre, you need way too many artists to render these worlds and fill em up with all the details; otherwise they’d be shunned for looking bland.

Konami’s situation has a lot to do with the state of the industry. With every consecutive generation games become more expensive to produce, really stretching the Japanese companies thin. About 70% of the Japanese producer/publishers that were around during the PS1 era have either been bought out, closed down, or reduced to producing portable games; since they really don’t have the resources to go head-to-head with Rockstars and Blizzards of the west.

Finally I do think they’ll do something with Zelda beyond the game. There are rumors saying that’s very probable it’ll have VA. So maybe an animated short or a movie I think. Since they already used the orchestra for the 25th, and they might want to put out something different.

Still it bums me out how this year there’ll not be nothing after #FE. Also despite their new console been a little less than a year away I feel it’s gonna be delayed. Seems fishy, there’ll not be a reveal at E3, which may be because they have nothing to show yet. So essentially will be waiting a year and half for something, very likely.

The thing they have with Metroid is that for some reason they want it to be successful in Japan. That’s why the scanning was kept and increased in the Prime sequels. Also that’s why they added a cinematic story in Other M and why now they’re trying their own Monster Hunter ripoff with Federation Force. I really don’t get why they want it to appeal over there.

Well Fire Emblem also managed to do well for itself.
As for the rest, they have just been forgotten. Pity because Wii’s Punch Out was a great game.

I say Kirby is the only one who got out unscathed. Seeing as experimental gameplay goes with his style.

Bungou Stray Dogs – 04

Bungou Stray Dogs sure never get tired to showcase more new characters every week, and judging from the OP I’m certain that there are more to come. This week there are 3 more new faces and each of them is over the top in their own ways, but that turns out to be for good […]

Joker Game – 04

I am starting to get a little worried about Joker Game. After a very strong start it’s gone down in quality once it revealed it’s episodic format. This episode marks the lowest point of the series so far though I still don’t think of it as bad. Rather than focus on a member of the […]

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 04

Despite nearly dying our protagonist wakes up out of the loop and now in the mansion of a strange clown like fellow with twin maids. The mansion looks to be Emilia’s home and we not look to be in a new time loop as evidenced by the last scene where it appears that Subaru was […]

Kiznaiver – 03

So this episode was an introduction to our new seventh Kiznaiver who looks to be a roguish shut in with a pendent for self harm. Adding a masochist to a group that shares pain is certainly a dilemma but I wonder just how they plan to make use of him in the plot. Considering that […]

Flying witch – 03

Flying witch has another solid episode this week. Flying week’s formula seems to be half of Makoto the witch getting to know an everyday country life, and other half of Makoto’s witchcrafts and meeting people from that magic world. All of these stories take place mostly in a single location as well, this time are […]

Mayoiga – 04

It’s until this week that I just noticed the rather strange part of the OP of Mayoiga, the sequence was shown in the point of view of Masaki. It starts with her, then introducing the cast and finally ends with her standing alone in the lost village. But when I think about that, only in […]

Bungou Stray Dogs – 03

This week Bungou Stray Dogs had improved a lot over its last episode, probably because the main storyline has kicked in. Look, I’m always in favor for character developments more than plot development, and one of my favorite character development is through the small character moments when the cast interacts with each other. That’s why […]

Schwarzesmarken – 65/100

Schwarzesmarken is a strange title in that it has a setting with fantastic potential yet the story is dampened by a rushed pacing and Missing characterisation. Boku dake ga Inai Machi – 85/100

Gangsta. – 58/100

Gangsta is an anime with a lot of things going for it. A mature cast, gritty themes, a interesting setting and a trio of main characters who can carry the show. Gakkou Gurashi! – 80/100

Little Witch Academia The Enchanted Parade – 81/100

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks Review – 85/100

Shirobako Review – 80/100

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]
