Okay, so I know that this isn’t getting subbed and all, and the fact that it has only one cute girl and no hot guys were bound to make it ridiculously ignored, but seriously: someone sub this. I know the acting isn’t at its best, but I keep seeing more and more people who want realism in anime. This is by far the most realistic series of the season!

It’s surprising how few anime seem to focus on bad boyfriends, the only recent one that I can think of right now is Colorful. Are moe girls really that pure that they only attract guys with no personality or something? While previous episodes of this show may have been a bit overacted, this episode hit all of the right notes: it never was too dramatic, and yet it revealed that the guy that Yuuko had a crush on was both a criminal and cheating on her. It’s not like these problems resolved themselves in 50 years time in Japan, right?

This was a pretty great portrayal of the teenaged years. It had angst, but this didn’t come with the cliches that you usually see in anime and it really was about problems that anyone could have had. I really liked this conclusion to Yuuko’s arc. I imagine that the final two episodes will be about Kouhei’s brother. He’s been strangely ignored during the past few episodes.
Rating: ** (Excellent)

Ha! Your comment regarding fanservice is appreciated. XD
But I agree with the sentiment, I don’t speak Japanese so I haven’t been able to watch the recent episodes. I imagine the awkward timing of the broadcasting and the lack of marketability makes it a rather unappealing project unfortunately…

Oh god! Since you stopped talking about alien schuddle, these bearly get one comment per week!!!
Seems like the chance of you making this popular are impossible…

  3. notintheface11 says:

I would watch it if it were subbed. Just know that.

  4. Aegd says:

It may be an interesting story and all that, but the setting, time period and the fact that the character design is pretty boring will keep most people from this show… me including.

I don’t find this time period in Japan very interesting… also I’d rather watch regular dramas if I wanted a “realistic” show… the Japanese produce a shitload of regular tv-dramas… when it comes to anime i’d rather go for the spectacular and fantastic…

  5. Pafiume says:

I’ve found four episodes subbed, and while they take a while between episodes I can’t find anything that says they’ve stopped/dropped it. So someone -is- subbing is.

  6. AlexS says:

I really want to watch this series, but still stuck at episode 3, because of lack of subs

  7. Wandering Bunny says:

@Aegd: The setting and time period?
It’s basically modern day without cell-phones.
Seriously the cultral difference between the years dosen’t seem to really affect this kind of show.
As for boring design… I won’t go and say it’s design is exciting or anything, but really is anything out of the normal big-eyed moe-blobs, chibis and bishounen that bad for your eyes?

  8. Aegd says:

Wandering Bunny – I’m just saying how it is. You making stupid remarks over what you “think” I watch (and missing the mark by a longshot, btw)… oh and yes.. I find the 1920-1970’s to be a increadibly boring time period… but its mostly the design, story and setting that bores me the most. Like I said before, I watch plenty of regular japanese tv dramas, I’ve seen this stuff before…

I enjoyed Rainbow though… thats how you do a good anime in the same time period.

@Bam @Kevin Funniest part about this is, that myself, psgels, Mario, Helghast, and Aidan are not even critics. We’re writers of a blog, a format in and of itself purely conversational and opinionated.

@Mike Who’s the one without a life now? You’ve been on this dump for 8 years. Go fuck yourself and go outside for once.
I’m officially done at this point. Tired of psgels, tired of this bullshit ass circlejerk. As of right now I hope you realize how much of a no life cunt you lot are. Fucking fags.

@K-off: Why am I mot surprised. The guy admits to spamming nonsense, posting juvenile childish shit as psgels, lingering on the site for years and going to somewhere else to desperately get around the ban, projecting his insecurities about not having a life or anybody that truly cares about them, yet denies being a sorry excuse for a troll. The level of cognitive dissonance is staggering.

You just can’t go to a person that disagrees with you and try to force them to see it your way. And if you do, talking shit and baseless accusations is the dumbest way of doing so.

Also no, a critic doesn’t need to “show both sides”; they just need to express their own opinion on the matter. The only times objectivity is required is when dealing with facts, like talking about the talent behind a work or the story, not personal interpretation. If someone wants to just hear their own perspective gratified then they need to search the web for a reviewer that agrees with them, which given the scope of the internet is not that hard to do.

As someone who has interacted with psgels since 2008, it’s quite clear you’ve never actually read any of his work Kevin. If you care about intellectual integrity, scroll down to the index, randomly go to any of his posts, and you’ll find he’s quite good at what he does after 9 years of it. I suggest you don’t waste any more of your time here Kevin, because you’ve seen for yourself that no one will ever accept your puerile antics.

Lastly as for all the accusations of spamming I’ve gotten over the years, yes SOME of it were mine. Only two. I also never spammed the chat besides the ONE TIME I posed as Psgels saying some dumb shit about pregnancy last year. That’s literally it.

And now Aidan cries that I’m being a meanie poopy head because I called Psgels a closed minded person who couldn’t be bothered to back up his opinions if his life depended on it. Again, @Aidan you cunt, it had nothing to do with me obviously disagreeing with psgels shitty opinion. I just wanted a damn reason for why psgels thought the way he did.

Seeing as things didn’t quite go to plan for Avilio last episode, it’s now time for him to prove his innocence to Nero. Avilio is playing his cards right and things would have gone to plan if it wasn’t for the man who lead them to Fango before. He states out of curiosity that he […]

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 17

While I did enjoy this episode and think that some interesting things have been brought up, I must admit that even my patience is starting to run out. I blame this mostly on the fact that I am watching this weekly instead of binge watching it all as the progression in these episodes has slowed […]

Neon Genesis Evangelion – 01

Truth be told, I’ve never seen any of the EVA franchise, and it’s not normal since EVA is a must for any anime viewer. I don’t really know the reason why I keep myself from watching it, maybe both because mecha is not my favorite genre, and the hype of EVA is just overwhelming that […]

Berserk(2016) – 03

Forgive me for the delay on this particular post but I must admit that in light of Berserks quality my interest in covering it has somewhat declined. I know that for every episode to come I will have to dance around the elephant in the room but this series isn’t making that easy for me. […]

Orange – 03

91 Days – 02

At this point I think it’s clear what kind of show we are getting. It’s not Hitman Reborn which essentially uses its mafia inspiration as window dressing for shounen battles. Nor is it Baccano with a silly yet funny atmosphere combining the prohibition setting and supernatural. No, what we have here is the old school […]

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 16

Looks like the new opening and ending won’t be getting much use in this second cour either, not that I am complaining of course. This week I  wouldn’t be surprised if people were getting sick of Subaru as his actions continue to be erratic and destructive. The ending of the last episode gave hope that […]

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 3rei – 02

It is safe to say that to get the most out of this series, you have got to be a Fate fan. There are numerous little easter eggs calling back to it, even Kirei’s signature “Rejoice” line. However I say even casual fans could get something out of this series as well. Provided they made […]

Legend of Legacy Review – 80/100

Oh Square Enix, this is the kind of avant-garde work you need to do. Developed by Furyu with the people behind SaGa, and written by Masato Kato of Chrono Trigger, I knew I was in for a unique game right from the start. But its gameplay is certainly divisive and for good reason, as this […]

My Life as a Courgette (2016) Movie Review – 82/100

It’s never easy to make a good family’s animation. For movies aim at adults, the filmmakers can easily get themselves loose, go crazy and the audience can still get it. Flying witch Review – 86/100

As I mentioned in one of my weekly posts, most of the reason why a slice-of-life anime show don’t work well is not because there’s nothing happen, but more because the cast isn’t interesting enough or the show tends to repeat the things that we already know. I’m happy to say that this is not […]
