Sato Junichi. Do yourself a favor. Get a cat.

Remember the episode from Aria? The one which was entirely devoted to President Aria? Well, for a moment, it actually looked like this episode would in its entirety follow around the big white blob that is Momoneko-sama. It got surreal at times, turning into this bizarre parody of the silent movie to narrate what he was saying.

THANK GOD though, the second half of this episode was about something completely different. And it was wonderful. It’s been a while since I watched such a down to earth portrayal of love sickness. The character it centred around only appeared in one scene before, but her characterization was already terrific.

With three or four episodes left, I do hope that the creators will use this time to do something special. I mean, this episode was a step into the right direction, but I want more. This show already has excellent characterization for just about every of its characters. Now use that.

Also, I’m not sure if I’m the only one in this, but I always really feel sorry for the voice actors who are tasked with voicing simple animals. This episode thankfully wasn’t as bad (seriously at least these cats had some really good voice acting, even though there was absolutely nothing feline about these… things), but it’s especially bad when a voice actor is called in to voice a cow in the background… doing exactly one “mooo”. Do these people feel any pride in their work?
Rating: ** (Excellent)

In this case VA of Momoneko is quite good one… but now it will be hard to watch Gurren Lagann.
But those cows maybe there are some who specialise in sounds of animals?

  2. Firechick says:

Ummm…did you not see the Siamese cat in the second screenshot rubbing against Momoneko? And I think Momoneko is the only blobby cat in the series. Sato’s done real cats before.

  3. du5k says:

Lol, they used real VAs for the animals? I always had the impression that they grabbed the nearest guy available and made him do the sounds.

  4. Scruffy says:

I always thought that Momoneko was drawn like that because it is like a physical representation of the ‘Tamayura’ that she sometimes sees in her photos.

  5. rufe says:

I mean, the voice actors who do major animals include the likes of Kappei Yamaguchi, Mikako Takahashi, Yoshino Hiroyuki….

As for the cow I imagine they get somebody from one of the voice acting colleges.

  6. Dalek-baka says:

and of course Norio Wakamoto or Jouji Nakata – but those two speak, still cat is a cat

or maybe simply director or some assistants run around the studio and they shout at employees: “Meow! Now to microphone!” and that how they get those sounds ;)

Who knows, maybe it will be an extensional movie about anthropomorphic blocks who cant get close to one another because they stick together if they do and if they connect too many people they make a line and disappear.

Should have just done a biography of the creator.
They’ll likely give it the battleship movie treatment.

So there’s a trilogy of movies being made of tetris. A trilogy. And here I am wondering how they plan to make even one movie out of it.

@Bam, It's Sharin no Kuni, quite literally one of my favourite visual novels of all time and it ain’t no fantasy harem.

@Aidan: That’s a sizeable donation, how are you still not in the top tier also have you played a fanverion sub here? Cuz a fantasy harems can go horribly wrong.

I put down 80 but it more 99 because of the shipping.
Bit worried they are being a bit too greedy. That 140K goal seems a little high.

The Last Fiction looks great, and that’s not me being biased for the subject matter. Defiantly the most expensive, polished and mature animation we’ve ever had. It’s based on a great arc from the Epic of Kings, which is the Persian equivalent of the Oddysee, and it’ll be amazing if done right.

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 13

When I heard about this arc being hard to watch I readied myself for a number of things. I was prepared to see Subaru die gruesomely, to see him tortured and broken. However while I was ready to see him get destroyed by others; I didn’t expect him to be the architect of his own […]

Kiznaiver Review – 60/100

Kiznaiver is a very different faire from Studio Triggers other works in that it takes a more serious tone and has a writer who tends to go more for the melodramatic. This is a tale about a group of very different people gathered together and have their pain linked to one another. In an effort […]

Kiznaiver -12

This was certainly pure narrative confusion at it’s zenith and in that regard I don’t mean that the events depicted were hard to understand but rather a general confusion on what mood it wants to go out on. In this episode we had comedic, drama and climatic showdown all hastily weaved together to try and […]

Bungou Stray Dogs – 12 (end)

And we get to the end of Bungou Stray Dogs, but this last episode doesn’t offer any conclusive ending, instead feel more like a set up episode for the next season. This last episode functions like a typically Bungou Stray Dogs’ episode; there are many good things to say about it, mainly the technical triumphs […]

Joker Game Review – 50/100

When experiencing the wave of new anime each season it can get rather tiresome to notice all the teenagers fighting supernatural forces while gathering a harem through seer luck or similarly tired concepts. So when something like Joker game comes along and takes a road less traveled with it’s story, naturally I am well on […]

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress – 10

Mayoiga Review – 78/100

Mayoiga has to be one of the most misunderstood shows in recent years. On a surface, the premise alone has a lot of potential. Joker Game – 12

Upon finishing yet another rather uneventful episode of Joker Game, I began to wonder just what this series had planned for its finale. “How best to top off a rather mediocre series such as this?” I thought to myself. However when looking over general consensus over the episode I found out that I seen the […]

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 12

This looks to be the weakest episode of Re:Zero to date which does seem to be a trend when it comes to the arcs of the series. When looking over these twelve episodes I have come to find that the weakest episodes of the series are the first episode of an arc which does make […]

Stella Glow Game Review-60/100

I really should be getting Grand Kingdom or waiting for Mirage Sessions. I somehow managed to get through Lord of […]

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir Game Review – 87/100

Oh my. This game was just utterly, utterly incredible when it came out, so despite disliking the usual remasters (ahem, Valkyria Chronicles), I was pretty stoked when I learned I’d be able to play this again on better hardware. It came out really late into the PS2’s lifetime in 2007, so at the time, I […]
