With this, Mix and Andy (Andy W. Hole; seriously?) have gotten their episode as well. Because yes, this series has decided that the two of them are going to be a couple. We already knew that Andy’s power was to create holes. Now, it turns out that Mix’s power is to fill them. Truly a match made in heavens.

In any case, this episode was as fun as the rest of the show. The romantic tensions between Mix and Andy in particular were just hilarious. All of the bizarrely epic ways which the creators found to symbolize holes were also hilarious. Yes, of course donuts are like the galaxy we live in. Makes perfect sense! And why is that headmaster still upholding the “no romance”-rule?

In any case, the series progression has been pretty solid so far. The cast here is fairly large, so it’s only natural that we get a string of episodes about the different cast. There are only a few left: that fangirl still needs one, Mikono’s brother is still left and the nun will also probably get one. It’s basic build-up, but it’s tried and true for a reason: it works and this this makes sure to create an engaging cast. The most important thing right now is that while it’s doing this build-up, it’s really fun to watch.

I thought the ‘no romance’ rule was key to stop mixed gender Aquarion going berserk, so that rule will have to stay.

Actually maybe they can break the rule if you have a real love triangle piloting? Perhaps the reason why the other Aquarion went berserk was because you had a couple in love with a 3rd wheel

    • Anca says:

Huh. That, oddly enough, makes sense. And it would explain that episode where they sent the pilots out on dates in groups of suspiciously compatible threes.

  2. KaleRylan says:

Yeah, that was explained pretty clearly. The Aquarion goes insane if lovers pilot it, but it is at its strongest when deeply infatuated people pilot it (presumably except for the end where lovers will be able to control its power). Because of that the instructors do everything they can to increase the sexual tension among the students to the absolute breaking point, but then harshly punish the students if they cross the line.

It’s actually really messed up. Hilarious, but messed up.

Anyway, I liked the episode. It didn’t have enough Zessica and Amata for me, but it maintained the series’ high level of entertainment.

  3. Frost says:

All I have to say about this episode is: “Bros before holes”

    LOL

  4. c160 says:

Still looking forward to a non Amata gattai if it’s possible(hopefully a Sazanka head one!).

  5. Armpit says:

You might never get your wish c160. The first series he was involved pretty much every single time. The few times someone else was the head they usually ended getting their butts kicked , then apollo switches in to finish it. I doubt this series is going to change it up since it is almost identical to the first series so far with one exception that i won’t spoil , but its plainly obvious to everyone who watched genesis

Also it’s nice to see there was heated arguments on EVA even before I start to do any post review. The way I see it thou certain films/ series are classic/ influential for a reason, if they are brilliant I certainly can still see its sparks. Like I can still amazed of Potemkin Battleship on its montahe editing, or It Happens one night fot its influential on romantic comedy. So I really look forward to see how I feel about EVA hahaa

Jezz, I was almost certain that I would cover Orange, mainly because I never have thought it would be on top of the polls. Anw, it’s good to see how Aidan cover it as it appears I’m a much more easy-marker than Aidan

There is a hipster movement of contrarianism, that they just like to hate on whatever’s popular and deemed kinda mainstream. I get defensive when they shit on classics like Akira, Berserk and Ghost in The Shell. I see that wasn’t the case here. Anybody can sincerely dislike Anything; that’s fine.

I see your point too. We can certainly take the stance of judging a thing by its own merit, unobstructed by social influences and constrains of time. Yet even at that Evangelion is a fairly slick piece of science fiction, and an interesting watch. At worst it’s boring and contrived, but that’s harmless. Never really fair to call it shit.

@Aidan: looking back soberly I did come back a little too heated. That’s uncalled for and I’m sorry for that. I usually don’t lash out of unrelated daily stress, but there are mistakes here and there.

Look I knew how this would end before it began. We have done this already and neither of us are changing our stance. K-Off laid out things perfectly with his response so I see no reason to elaborate. Only reason I jumped in was because you brought Fate into it and if that was the bait then congrats, you won. I see no reason to continue the farce with no compromise in sight.
In other words, need sleep. Goodnight.

@Bam,”I never said the problems it has gets erased by its early release or cultural significance”
Neither did I. I said you are hand waving it’s problems by stating so, which you are.

…And orange is still top of the poll…ugh. Seems like this is going to be torture for me. Kiznaiver was already trying my patience with those speeches but if Orange is even worse…oh boy…

Anyways I’m sure an emotionally manipulating soundtrack will make the anime a bit better :)

Bungou Stray Dogs – 12 (end)

And we get to the end of Bungou Stray Dogs, but this last episode doesn’t offer any conclusive ending, instead feel more like a set up episode for the next season. This last episode functions like a typically Bungou Stray Dogs’ episode; there are many good things to say about it, mainly the technical triumphs […]

Joker Game Review – 50/100

When experiencing the wave of new anime each season it can get rather tiresome to notice all the teenagers fighting supernatural forces while gathering a harem through seer luck or similarly tired concepts. So when something like Joker game comes along and takes a road less traveled with it’s story, naturally I am well on […]

Mayoiga Review – 78/100

Mayoiga has to be one of the most misunderstood shows in recent years. On a surface, the premise alone has a lot of potential. Joker Game – 12

Upon finishing yet another rather uneventful episode of Joker Game, I began to wonder just what this series had planned for its finale. “How best to top off a rather mediocre series such as this?” I thought to myself. However when looking over general consensus over the episode I found out that I seen the […]

Mayoiga – 12 (end)

Mayoiga pretty much wraps up its story this week and for the series that focus much about anti-climaxes and inconsistency, this ending neatly conclude all of its main loose end. In the final twist of Mayoiga, it turns out that Koharun is God’s daughter (now I understand the inclusion of him in Mayoiga) and all […]

Bungou Stray Dogs – 11

Chinese Animation Guide – Part 2: Chinese Anime shows

As much as I hated the term Chinese Anime (Anime stands for Japanese animation, strictly speaking), this is the exact term for those shows.
