Yeah. This was awesome. Lupin III just got better again.

This looked like your average Lupin episode, this time paying a homage to the catholic school genre. I was really reminded of Oniisama he for some reason. In any case things looked to be a fairly standard heist episode that had Mine Fujiko pretend to be a female teacher, while we follow some students around her, in particular one girl with braids who I remember noting had a really out of place voice actress. And then he took his wig off.

What followed was a wonderful battle of wits between Mine Fujiko and that one cop assistant with a little assistance of Lupin, and it was really well done. The acting was awesome, the camera work really managed to capture the characters this time, and I also love how well this episode made use of the tiny details that the previous episodes built up on. I loved how Mine Fujiko completely pwned that cop assistant and the wit with which she did it. And the guy had some nice tricks up his sleeve as well. I did not expect the gun-wielding schoolgirls.

Those bits around Fujiko’s past are also pretty surreal and very artistic. This episode indeed revealed that she had to endure a lot of abuse when she was a kid, which pretty much shaped her to what she is now. I like how subtle the portrayal of how she remembers those times is: it’s obviously a trauma, but we never see heavy emotions from her around thsoe flashbacks, unlike how she usually behaves.

Of all the dudes, you’d never expect Zenigata to be the one getting the most “action” … LOL

Superb episode, awesome series. It’s been a long time since I saw an anime where the style IS the substance.

Last episode was my favorite, now this one is my favorite. Excellent direction.

Heh, this show rocks. It has a very unique atmosphere. I can’t think of any show that is really similar, which is pretty rare these days.

Fujiko must be one of the most sexy characters in anime history. I wonder who the voice actress is. I can only imagine she’s hot :P.

LOL, I was looking forward to what the Oskar episode would be since the first introduced him…this episode definitely did not disappoint. Especially his dramatic facial expressions when he thought Zenigata was being tortured XD

  7. Mekem says:

I have a bad feeling about this Oskar guy… his ability to disguise himself rivals even the skills of Lupin! Enjoy him while he lasts people.

beautiful episode. I love the music and the snippet of a flash back complete with weird music.

@SuperMario: don’t let this taint your opinion of the series tho, Just pay attention to the details, and in the end share your own honest thoughts. I am genuinely interested to see what someone who doesn’t have a dog in this game thinks about the show.

Now I’m not a fan of this guy, but he does make some sound valid points here; yet even I agree that he takes it too far in a few places. I’m not good at video editing tho, and this proves that the love for the series is not limited to a few artsy types, but even mainstream personas that anime newcomers are banding around can appreciate the craft:

It is easy to undermine the value of originality, but it’s also fairly easy to show how that’s plain wrong. It’s objectively much easier to improve on existing concepts than to use creativity and imagination to come up with new angles, styles and fresh perspectives and twists in a medium that had gone stale. Any work can age and become old, but one can never take away from what made it special in the first place. They’ll forever be hailed as the Pioneers that they were.

    Now on unrelated note:
“[Anno turned EoE] into what the original end of the series would have been if it was given enough budget: strange, absurd, confusing and a work of art”.
Must be a quote from the “prime example of a blind fanboy” Bam right? Wrong! This was written by psgels himself. Guess whoever praises Eva is an idiot fanboy who doesn’t know any better. But yet those who bash it for a few repetitive shallow arguments are the true erudites.

What are we numbing ourselves to? The pain of band stress of modern life? Failing to fit or preserve the image that they tell us to uphold? This certainly needs to be brought to attention and critically analyzed.

Then there’s the 90 million daily opiate users, which basically means one out of every four people you meet are on one form of these things. Mothers, daughters, doctors, cops, teachers, all circling the drain. The US is nowhere near the most populated country, but we are by far the most consumer of prescription narcotics. That has to say something about our society.

There are 4 million patients, mostly kids between 8-16, that are on a daily dose of Adderall. That’s a straight mixture of several amphetamine salts, so for all intent and purposes crystal meth. Ritalin is also a powerful stimulant, and the cost/benefit analysis of this approach has always been proven to be damn reprehensible. ADHD is very rare, but used as a blanket term to just sedate the hell out of children that lazy parents don’t wanna deal with.

@K-off: well these drug-peddling doctors are just dealers with 20 years of schooling and half a million dollars in student debt. There are good caring doctors, but way far in-between. The few cases of actual neural chemical imbalance that benefit from these drugs are a shocking minority. There has been too many scandals of uncovered “donation” from big pharma to medical boards and hospitals.

Kiznaiver Review – 60/100

Kiznaiver is a very different faire from Studio Triggers other works in that it takes a more serious tone and has a writer who tends to go more for the melodramatic. This is a tale about a group of very different people gathered together and have their pain linked to one another. In an effort […]

Kiznaiver -12

This was certainly pure narrative confusion at it’s zenith and in that regard I don’t mean that the events depicted were hard to understand but rather a general confusion on what mood it wants to go out on. In this episode we had comedic, drama and climatic showdown all hastily weaved together to try and […]

Bungou Stray Dogs – 12 (end)

And we get to the end of Bungou Stray Dogs, but this last episode doesn’t offer any conclusive ending, instead feel more like a set up episode for the next season. This last episode functions like a typically Bungou Stray Dogs’ episode; there are many good things to say about it, mainly the technical triumphs […]

Joker Game Review – 50/100

Joker Game – 12

Upon finishing yet another rather uneventful episode of Joker Game, I began to wonder just what this series had planned for its finale. “How best to top off a rather mediocre series such as this?” I thought to myself. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir Game Review – 87/100

Oh my. This game was just utterly, utterly incredible when it came out, so despite disliking the usual remasters (ahem, Valkyria Chronicles), I was pretty stoked when I learned I’d be able to play this again on better hardware.
