Now that was just completely adorable. This episode was the best episode of Kamisama Hajimemashita so far since episode 01. It was all about the recurring characters this time. And Tomoe gets turned into a kid.

What I’ve noticed with a lot of comedies that lost my interest is that they introduce these characters with gimmicks, and the blow all of their best jokes on the episodes that these characters are introduced in. The result are heaps of characters who feel like one trick ponies. Then Shinjirou Kurama returned in this episode (the idol), and he was much funnier in this episode compared to the second episode. The chemistry between him and Tomoe and Nanami in particular was hilarious.

And at the same time, the serious bits again were really good: this episode again kept switching back and forth comedy and drama. The drama was really genuine, especially near the end of the episode. With the previous episode we already got to see Tomoe’s worries about Nanami, but this episode went even further with him feeling depentant on Nanami, and being ashamed of showing his weak side to her. Nanami on the other hand was really well acted when she properly fell in love with him there after seeing Tomoe’s new haircut.
Rating: 5.5/8 (Excellent)

Did anyone notice the red haired guy in the middle of the episode? He was sitting in a tree and said something like “we finally broke them up”, referring to Tomoe and Nanami. I like this kind of foreshadowing, I just hope it’s used on an important character.

    • Sabella says:

I liked the foreshadowing as well since that character does end up coming into the story to cause some trouble for the protagonists. As to his importance — well, I think that will depend on the individual viewer’s opinion of how his actions affect the characters in the anime.

I recall you complaining about characters in anime that can either cook and do it really well, or can’t cook and fail miserably, so here is an example of a good, heartfelt cook who fails to please :D

Tomoes new haircut……………….don’t you mean hair growth!?

Aww chibi Tomoe is super duper adorable.

Every episode has been enjoyable so far.

@Kaiser: I don’t care what somebody personally finds better than something else, I already know he likes Fate way more than any of the classics, but that’s his preference. What bothers me is bending of facts and calling bias where his is much more extreme.

Ha, I do suppose its kind of a shame in some way Mario will be watching Eva as an adult, if I was anything to go by, watching it as a kid was a freakout experience he’d be missing out on that!

@mamamoo: I didn’t know right and wrong were limited only to social issues. I guess a historic work that changed the landscape of a medium and was the fruit of the labor of many people and a fond part of many other’s childhoods is utterly insignificant and not worth defending. My bad then.

If Aidan was truly trying to be insulting he’d have said Rahxephon was better than Eva. And we all know that’d be just cruel, wrong and unusual! =D

@Kaiser: there is nothing untouchable, and certainly no work that is without some faults. This ‘off-limits’ mentality is a poison that stifles productive debates and mutes consenting opinions. But criticism has to be fair and backed up by educated analysis. A well-rounded critique mentions the good with the bad, just to show that the author knows the full extent of what they’re talking about.

Going by Madoka threads on here though, I do find that in the case of one former user, the triggering of Madoka fans takes a higher level than triggering an Eva one lol

Bam, “I try to stand for what’s right” lol this is an anime chat not a political rally. Like I said before, it’s not that deep and i’m sure it’s just Aidan’s sense of humor. You’re acting as this is a traumatizing personal attack on your beliefs…..we are talking about anime, remember that. Maybe I’m not passionate enough compared to everyone here lol

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 13

When I heard about this arc being hard to watch I readied myself for a number of things. I was prepared to see Subaru die gruesomely, to see him tortured and broken. However while I was ready to see him get destroyed by others; I didn’t expect him to be the architect of his own […]

Kiznaiver Review – 60/100

Kiznaiver is a very different faire from Studio Triggers other works in that it takes a more serious tone and has a writer who tends to go more for the melodramatic. This is a tale about a group of very different people gathered together and have their pain linked to one another. In an effort […]

Kiznaiver -12

This was certainly pure narrative confusion at it’s zenith and in that regard I don’t mean that the events depicted were hard to understand but rather a general confusion on what mood it wants to go out on. In this episode we had comedic, drama and climatic showdown all hastily weaved together to try and […]

Bungou Stray Dogs – 12 (end)

And we get to the end of Bungou Stray Dogs, but this last episode doesn’t offer any conclusive ending, instead feel more like a set up episode for the next season. This last episode functions like a typically Bungou Stray Dogs’ episode; there are many good things to say about it, mainly the technical triumphs […]

Joker Game Review – 50/100

When experiencing the wave of new anime each season it can get rather tiresome to notice all the teenagers fighting supernatural forces while gathering a harem through seer luck or similarly tired concepts. So when something like Joker game comes along and takes a road less traveled with it’s story, naturally I am well on […]

Mayoiga Review – 78/100

Joker Game – 12

Upon finishing yet another rather uneventful episode of Joker Game, I began to wonder just what this series had planned for its finale. “How best to top off a rather mediocre series such as this?” I thought to myself. However when looking over general consensus over the episode I found out that I seen the […]

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 12

This looks to be the weakest episode of Re:Zero to date which does seem to be a trend when it comes to the arcs of the series. When looking over these twelve episodes I have come to find that the weakest episodes of the series are the first episode of an arc which does make […]

Stella Glow Game Review-60/100

I really should be getting Grand Kingdom or waiting for Mirage Sessions. I somehow managed to get through Lord of […]

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir Game Review – 87/100

Oh my. This game was just utterly, utterly incredible when it came out, so despite disliking the usual remasters (ahem, Valkyria Chronicles), I was pretty stoked when I learned I’d be able to play this again on better hardware. It came out really late into the PS2’s lifetime in 2007, so at the time, I […]
