Hell yeah! Seven years already. A lot has changed over the past year, most notably for my personal life being much more active so that I lost a lot of time that I normally had to keep up to date with everything. The past year has definitely been a year of experimentation for me, and I’m definitely not planning to quit anytime soon despite having a few backlog issues. In any case, every year I celebrate this with a few statistics. I’m not doing funny search terms this year unfortunately, simply because of how much time it takes to compile them and make them good (seriously, this involved looking through tens of thousands of different search terms, spotting the odd ones amongst them…!)

In the past seven years, I have written 5361 posts, spread over 268 categories. A total number of 47525 comments have been submitted to this site, and that doesn’t even count the shoutbox. That one has 33355 comments already (in less than a year!!). Here is a list of the top commenters for the shoutbox (yes, I can get to my database with this site, so I can gather more useful statistics):

#20: Sei – 311

#1: Kaiser Eoghan – 7580

I’m just amazed at how much Kaiser/in Emma/Eoghan has been able to produce for the past year, especially considering how long his comments usually are. In any case, here is the list of the people who left the most comments on this site. And yes, this goes all the way back to the beginning of this site:

#5: Firechick – 360
#4: wicked – 384
#3: Solaris – 531
#2: MeOW – 647
#1: psgels – 2522

This was also the first time I looked at these numbers, and I must say: thank you all for leaving so many comments. I had no idea how many of you provided so much feedback until I actually saw this. Anyway, as for viewer statistics: in total this site has gotten 17294328 page views (that’s 17 million), and 9723537 unique visits. Yes, we’ve nearly reached the 10 million. I unfortunately cannot do a list with the most accessed posts since google analytics screwed up since changing sites, however here is a list of the most common search terms (aside from variations of ‘psgels’ and ‘star crossed’.

#12: toward the terra
#11: clannad review
#10: blassreiter review
#9: eden of the east review

#6: mouryou no hako (I love how people were actually looking for this one; it’s still generating traffic, although not as much as a few years ago)
#5: saiunkoku monogatari
#4: aoi bungaku (I did not expect this one to generate so much traffic as it did)
#3: top 10 anime
#2: that anime blog (I still like how people basically come here looking for the wrong blog)
#1: darker than black review

This is pretty much THE only anime blog I ever used over the past three and a half years and that I will ever need to use in the future because it’s so awesome. I love the focus on unique & non-mainstream anime that may not get a lot of other reviews on other sites [sparkly moe onii-chan crap BOOOO! HISSS!]. And psgels has good taste and intelligent write ups…so glad SC will be around for many more anniversaries. Happy 7th!

p.s. how do you guys get your avatars? usually i know how to do this kinda stuff, but maybe i’m just blind and don’t see it?

  14. LimeWarrior says:

  21. Avalon says:

Happy 7th anniversary! I’ve only started commenting in the last month or 2, but I’ve been following this blog for a probably 3 years now. Whether I agree with you or not, I love hearing your thoughts (and those of the other commenters) whenever I finish watching an anime episode. That is not about to change any time soon.

  22. erichai says:

Congrats, psgels! That’s quite a long time! It’s a shame I only found you somewhat recently (far less than a year ago). Your views have been an interesting case of variety I can look forward to every post~

Speaking of me only coming here recently…
    Why the heck am I so high in the shoutbox thing? ._.;;;

  34. Frost says:

Crazy, I thought there would be no way Id make the top 20 in comments but there I am… 254? Woah… I guess its because Ive visited your blog for about 4 years, or something like that, but I rarely comment nowadays, so its still pretty surprising

  35. KaZuHiRo says:

I am missing the comments from m, Solaris and reverse: I wonder where are they now. Can’t believe that my old nick (AKI) is #22, did I really leave that much comments? Oh well, I did discover SC when I’m looking for RideBack reviews and I never looked back. Three (or four?) years and counting!

  36. catharsis108 says:

Happy 7th Anniversary! I’m someone who rarely comments here, but I’ve been following your blog for years! For anime recommendations and reviews, only your blog. Keep up the good work, and glad to hear you aren’t planning to stop soon! xD

  37. Anca says:

Congratulations on your 7th anniversary, Psgels!

And I can-t believe I have that many shoutbox comments, woah – it-s more than I-ve ever had anywhere else. I thought I was more a lurker.

Sorry for the -, I-m at work, on a german keyboard layout, and can-t find the apostrophe.

In case of Washington, yeah, that might be a bit in bad taste, but how many anime Ceasars have you seen by now? nobody seemed to care. Also in case of Häyhä it might prove a good thing to use his name and make the younger generation, who don’t know jack shit about these men, learn of their greatness.

@Emma: Most of them are obscured enough to not warrant a reaction from any group or affiliation. I mean seriously, how much do we even know about Gilgamesh? Also these are ancient mythical heroes so they are in a way the inheritance of mankind and nobody can claim a special domain over their use. Maybe Sumerians could, but they are all long gone.

Ah one may complain about how type-moon uses historical/mythical characters, to each their own but really nothing compares to poor Oda Nobunaga, the Japanese Sengoku characters and all that three kingdoms stuff, the treatment they were given in other anime.

Or, how about we don’t bring them back and stain their memory by turning them into retarded anime characters? You know, like what they’ve done in the series so far?

Also they don’t really need magical concealment, they are snipers after all, stealth and not giving away your position is something they train for, and apparently do pretty well. Häyhä killed more than 500 Soviet soldiers and they were still confused about from where they’re being shot at. It was -20°C and he was hidden in snow biting down on ice so they can’t see him or his breath. That right there is a Heroic Spirit if there ever was one.

@Aidan: yeah I had the Assassin class in mind as well. Archer is not a bad candidate either, but they are still way too hands on to be a sniper; although given that could be due to this Archer’s style more than anything. And as much OP as they are a sniper still doesn’t even need to engage them, just take out the masters from miles away much faster than a deflectable arrow.

@Aidan Lol, Medusa was a different story- she had no known fighting tool by which she could be classified, which is why it was so easy for them to make shit up for her. Whereas with the heros we know what weapons they used, we don’t have as much leeway.

Alright I can get on board with Joan of Arc and Saber looking very similer, even mordred has a good excuse. But this is just a shoddy attempt to avoid not having the Fate/stay night poster girl in a game.

    (Monday, Nov 24. 2014 07:59 PM)
@K-Off, not really. I mean Medusa is a rider and the mythlogical beast is hardly know for riding a vehilce. All you really need to do is make there noble phantasm related to the class. Still would you even want anyone from the later centuries? The mythlogical heroes were OP as f*ck.
Also Emperor Augustus has already been summoned as a servent. And get this…it’s red saber.

Thing is, the whole system kind of breaks the fuck apart once you bring in people from beyond the 17th century. Swords weren’t a primary weapon anymore so there wouldn’t be any sabers, unless you count bayonets, lancers are obsolete, and the rest is the same as well.

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 07

As expected, this week we have another action filled episode. Queue the pretty explosions and fast paced fighting. It felt too short despite the episode length being just the same as the others. I often find that with a good episode of anime it makes you lose the concept of time as you watch. Making […]

Nanatsu no Taizai – 07

I will admit it, I laughed at the beginning. The episode started with a pretty funny joke related to Meliodas and Elizabeth sleeping in the same bed. Maybe because this one didn’t have a second agenda of providing fanservice at the same time. Actually I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the previous. […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 06

I was mistaken in the previous review. The action scene I thought we would be getting today has been postponed till next week. This week we have a calm before the storm episode as things seem to be setting up for the fight scene to come. I am a little disappointed with this weeks fare […]

Nanatsu no Taizai – 06

There was quite number of still frames this episode so I hope that the animation budget isn’t starting to hurt. So our heroes triumph over the villains with a little help from Elizabeth. She showed some actual enginuity for once. As I was about to sigh as the villain was preparing to blab on about […]

Shingeki no Bahamut:Genesis- 05

Ah, the story progression that I was looking for. I finally find myself having a reason to get attached to Leone and Kaisar, because this episode devotes an entire episode to their rivalry and is just all around an improvement from last episode. I’ve talked about how the slow pacing hurts this show, and this […]

Parasyte-the Maxim- 03-05

Let me put up a disclaimer: When I first started to review this series, I didn’t foresee the obvious outcome that this show would end up so mediocre. I debated whether or not I should write reviews in groups of 2-3 episodes versus reviews that would drone on about the same issues every single episode, […]

Your Lie in April – 04 & 05

Episodes 4 and 5 of Your Lie in April were crucial ones in terms of how the series would develop. Episode 4 was a very important episode in the series as we see Kousei reintroduce himself to the music world after his mother’s death left him unable to play the piano. How the writers would […]

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks – 05

Always elegant. That is the motto of the Tohsaka household and the mask of Tohsaka Rin. The meaning clearly that no matter what you do, do it with style and grace. It is the creed which Rin upholds by playing the honor student. Though as you can see, at times cracks can appear in the […]

Nanatsu no Taizai – 05

One of the problems facing this series is the presentation of threats. In many other shounen you can just bring out some powerful villain and have him force the protagonist to get stronger. In seven deadly sins however our main characters are already veteran legendary warriors with tremendous power. So just adding in a strong […]

Nerawareta Gakuen Review – 84/100

Let me talk a bit about Ryousuke Nakamura. For a long time, this guy was my hero. He started off as an assistant director to Monster, in my opinion a big reason why that series got such a ridiculously solid adaptation, and then in 2008 he came with the groundbreaking Mouryou no Hako. No TV-series […]

Kick Heart

Okay, so I didn’t want to exit 2013 without having seen Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick Heart. It’s only twelve minutes anyway, and I consider him to be one of the best anime directors out there. The story here is pretty silly and mostly serves as a backdrop, so I mostly want to talk about the nature […]

Kyousogiga Review – 90/100

Everyone’s taste is different, and that’s a wonderful thing because that allows us to have so many different forms of media that all aim toward their own niche. Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Lovecome o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru Review – 80/100

Noucome! You do not want to know how long I have been waiting for a series like this. More than half a decade, at the very least. Finally a series comes along and puts the incredibly overused harem genre in its place. And it actually does it well. Thank you! So to elaborate: the harem […]

Pokemon: The Origin Review – 75/100

Normally I try to avoid spoilers with these reviews, but screw it, it’s Pokemon. Pokemon The Origin is a bomb of nostalgia. Tamayura – More Aggressive Review – 75/100

I’m not going to dedicate a post for my impression for the final three episodes of this series. It was just too boring to write much about. Silver Spoon Review – 86/100

When Noitamina started airing two series per season, it was amazing. Yondemasuyo, Azazel-San Z Review – 82,5/100
