Here is why I love Zetsuen no Tempest’s new direction: a second half transition is tricky, and most shows just head into the usual roads: be more dramatic. Zetsuen no Tempest however decided to add more comedy here. My question is: what’s wrong with that? As a story transitions and changes, it needs to use the build-up of the start and head into the most logical direction, while still being interesting. Nobody said that it had to be more dramatic or anything. In fact, Sakurasou is currently showing that that can also hurt a show in a way.

The point of Zetsuen no Tempest’s change of tone is not to just give it more romance. Instead, the romance is a tool to get the other areas to shine: Aika’s death is the center of the story. You really need this well developed. And the characters. I don’t know about you, but I find them hilarious. Their chemistry in this episode again was really fun to watch.

Also, here we have a series that makes excellent use of its main characters being teenagers. A lot of the charms of this series is watching adults go crazy by having the fate of the world dependant on the hands of a bunch of impulsive kids. And the big difference with the usual: despite all their hormones, they remain intelligent. Samon in this episode was hilarious again when he found out that all his plans were foiled again.
Rating: 5.5/8 (Excellent)

This episode was a particular delight and I’ll be glad to see the truths unveiled. Samon actually earned my respect for his intellect, I think what he lacks is the will to use brute force to get what he wants.

I’m still a bit worried to how this will all end up, but I’ll trust it for now. To be honest I like the laid-backness, but am still quite interested in the twists to come.

The time travel raises a lot of questions too.

as a matter of fact i’m going back to them when zetsuen no tempest is over. i really enjoy it when anime borrows foreign literature and puts it in a context that’s interesting. makes you enjoy the source material in a new way.

I keep wondering if they are going to pull A Winter’s Tale, especially since both A Winter’s Tale and ZnT have a similar structure with a tonal shift halfway through. Actually, that might be awesome, but I’m probably far off and the answer is actually much more simple.

It’s a fact that people hate on Eva to sound cool, and that’s a seriously low form of pack mentality. They call Akira overrated, Ghost in the Shell boring, Cowboy Bebop lame, Serial Experiment Lain gay and so on. None of it is sincere or of any merit. Lots of it are newcomers that want to justify their lack of knowledge by trying to make it as if these were all worthless to begin with, so now they can just say that SAO is the best show out there.

Just to clear up some disengunous assumptions. I do have shows I like more than Fate. Considering that you are going on this long in defense of Eva and still claim not to have blind bias is that not proof that you do. I mean you can talk crap about Fate any day here. Mention the deus ex machina, heavy exposition, crap pacing and even call the writing bad and you know what I will say?
Yup on that, still gonna buy the blurays though.

I can imagine probably/potentially getting a far more positive reaction from End of Eva now and talking of it, it reminds me that how as I’ve gotten older I respond much better to mindscramblers, I could just let the film wash over me now.

@Kaiser: I don’t care what somebody personally finds better than something else, I already know he likes Fate way more than any of the classics, but that’s his preference. What bothers me is bending of facts and calling bias where his is much more extreme.

Ha, I do suppose its kind of a shame in some way Mario will be watching Eva as an adult, if I was anything to go by, watching it as a kid was a freakout experience he’d be missing out on that!

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 13

When I heard about this arc being hard to watch I readied myself for a number of things. I was prepared to see Subaru die gruesomely, to see him tortured and broken. However while I was ready to see him get destroyed by others; I didn’t expect him to be the architect of his own […]

Kiznaiver Review – 60/100

Kiznaiver is a very different faire from Studio Triggers other works in that it takes a more serious tone and has a writer who tends to go more for the melodramatic. This is a tale about a group of very different people gathered together and have their pain linked to one another. In an effort […]

Kiznaiver -12

This was certainly pure narrative confusion at it’s zenith and in that regard I don’t mean that the events depicted were hard to understand but rather a general confusion on what mood it wants to go out on. In this episode we had comedic, drama and climatic showdown all hastily weaved together to try and […]

Bungou Stray Dogs – 12 (end)

And we get to the end of Bungou Stray Dogs, but this last episode doesn’t offer any conclusive ending, instead feel more like a set up episode for the next season. This last episode functions like a typically Bungou Stray Dogs’ episode; there are many good things to say about it, mainly the technical triumphs […]

Joker Game Review – 50/100

When experiencing the wave of new anime each season it can get rather tiresome to notice all the teenagers fighting supernatural forces while gathering a harem through seer luck or similarly tired concepts. So when something like Joker game comes along and takes a road less traveled with it’s story, naturally I am well on […]

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress – 10

After the Horobi’s laser light show and having Biba-sama completely dominate the narrative with his super cool looking henchmen, Koutetsujou no Kabaneri is back on track although it’s on different rails for here on out. Imprisoned by the Hunters and being caught in the middle of the impending final conflict between the Shogun and Biba, […]

Mayoiga Review – 78/100

Mayoiga has to be one of the most misunderstood shows in recent years. On a surface, the premise alone has a lot of potential. Joker Game – 12

Upon finishing yet another rather uneventful episode of Joker Game, I began to wonder just what this series had planned for its finale. “How best to top off a rather mediocre series such as this?” I thought to myself. However when looking over general consensus over the episode I found out that I seen the […]

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World – 12

This looks to be the weakest episode of Re:Zero to date which does seem to be a trend when it comes to the arcs of the series. When looking over these twelve episodes I have come to find that the weakest episodes of the series are the first episode of an arc which does make […]

Stella Glow Game Review-60/100

I really should be getting Grand Kingdom or waiting for Mirage Sessions. My review of Stella Glow is way past relevancy being nearly 8 months late, but I finally completed this and it wouldn’t hurt to briefly wrap up my thoughts about the game created by the now-defunct Imageepoch. I somehow managed to get through Lord of […]

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir Game Review – 87/100

Oh my. This game was just utterly, utterly incredible when it came out, so despite disliking the usual remasters (ahem, Valkyria Chronicles), I was pretty stoked when I learned I’d be able to play this again on better hardware. It came out really late into the PS2’s lifetime in 2007, so at the time, I […]
